DD has managed to split her forehead on saturday just gone....about 2 in long and quite deep. Took her to A&E and they put butterfly stitches on it.

So today...got a call from school she had bumped head with anothe child and managed to reopen the wound (ouch)...this time they have glued it and put more stiches.

DD is fine nd has been very brave but the nurse did indicate that chances of it scaring now were greater due to it reopening.......is there anything i can do to reduce the scarring while it is healing???

She has no fringe btw and doesnt like them

Ah, she'll be fine. Young enough to heal pretty quick. Just make sure it's kept clean, and don't get too much sun on it when it's still pink.

Vitamin E oil, squeezed form those capsules you are meant to swallow, is meant to be good too.

DS2 had a similar injury to his forehead, aged 5. he's 7 now and there is a white line where the cut was. The scar line used to feel raised to the touch (didn't look raised) but now it's flat. I put nothing on it and my gut feeling is that it will actually fade to nothing more than a very faint white line if anything. Children do tend to heal very well.

but i was thinking how often i see friends comapring scars from escapades they had when they fell out of trees......and split lips etc etc...all done at a young age and all still quite prominenet.....hers is right in the middle of her forhead in a n/s direction.......she is v aware of it too and keeps checking it in the mirror

The vast majority fade to nothing/a very thin white line.

You have to be careful (I know this won't be easey) to not let her play/fiddle with it or the dressing, if she is that aware of it - clean and dry, fingers away, no rough play, she'll be fine...

bruxeur · 27/06/2008 15:48

Easey?

crikey.

SoupDragon · 27/06/2008 15:57

It'll be hidden by her frown lines, gained from too much frowning at it in the mirror

Most of those friends you remember won't have had the cuts glued. DS2s scar is a nice neat line - not what you'd expect from smacking your head on the edge of a log stepping stone!

oh SD dd is a vain old bird....even at 6

DS said "dont worry dd you will look like harry potter"
