Would a 13 month old be bothered by insect (possbly flea?) bites....or could they be mistaken for chickenpox??

Ok I know it's probably a daft question.

Took DS3 to toddler group this afternoon, when we got there he had no marks on his face or arms. However, not long before we left (about 45 minutes ago) my BF noticed 3 "spots" on his arm, and small one on his face, about 10 minutes after that we spotted one on the side of his face too.

First reaction was "insect bites", but then we weren't sure whether it was chickenpox.

We've done the glass test, so I'm not overly concerned. And doing a google search for flea/insect bites show raised spots like his. But he doesn't seem remotely bothered by them - wouldn't insect bites of some description (espcially the size these have come up!) bother him?

Or could these insect bites actually be the start of chickenpox?? I seem to recall DS1's pox when he had them just over a year ago started off as rather non-descript big red spots.......

Will try and take a photo of some of them - if I can keep him still long enough

normally early chicken pox spots are very itchy too aren't they? but if fresh ones are appearing now he's home that's a more likely option. or it could be an allergy?

I know chickenpox is doing the rounds at our local nursery - wouldn't surprise me, especially if he hasn't had them yet.

My guess is that you'll know for sure within the next 24hrs

misdee · 26/06/2008 15:53

could be chicken pox.

dd's didnt itch straight away.

FAQ · 26/06/2008 15:54

missingtheaction - both DS1 and 2 had it a year ago, and they only complained of itchyness several days in - actually DS2 didn't seem to itch at all!!! (but was definitely chickenpox)

when dd had chickenpox she didn't seem to itch at all. If it is chickenpox then you'll know in next couple of days.

but I'd rather dd had chickenpox than flea bites - yuck!

FAQ · 26/06/2008 16:01

noooo - at least flea bites are "yuck" but won't totally disrupt my life for the next 7-10 days!

well thankfully there seem to be no sign of any more appearing so it's looking like it's probably insect bites of some description (gawd knows what it was lol).

Hopefully I won't be updating this thread in the morning to say "oh sh*t he's covered from head to toe and I'm tied to the house for the next week and a half )
