I always thought I'd be absolutely fine, storm in a teacup, Daily Mail and all that. But as it turns out, now the appointment is on the horizon, I'm having a bit of a wobble...

Please tell me it's fine. Thank you.

Oooh Flowery, I'm in the same boat. I do hope this doesn't turn into one of those threads.

mindalina · 26/06/2008 14:50

When's his appointment? DS has his booked for next Wednesday and I am also very nervous, so I will happily hold your hand and reassure you all will be well and you can do the same for me

flowerybeanbag · 26/06/2008 14:51

PJ I don't want it to be one of those threads either. I know it's fine, really I do, but just feeling a bit wobbly about it.

It's 8th July mindalina.

You do worry, don't you? I was def in favour of DS having it done, as was DH, but when it came down to it you think 'what if...'

he was absolutely fine btw, and had less of a reaction than many of the early jabs

squeaver · 26/06/2008 14:55

Calm down you lot. They'll all be fine.

flowerybeanbag · 26/06/2008 14:56

It's daft isn't it? I am normally a very logical, rational person, but there's a bit of an 'eeek' niggle over this.

Would you like some science stuff or will virtual hand holding do?

PerkinWarbeck · 26/06/2008 14:57

I had a few wobbles too. I did check all the literature, and if there was an family history of autoimmune/asd problems, I might have thought twice.

But we went ahead, and DD had less reaction to the MMR jab than to the other ones she's had.

She didn't have the other jab that they normally deliver at the same time, as I felt the triple was enough on its own. She's having the other jab next week instead.

mindalina · 26/06/2008 14:57

Have you spoken to your doctor at all? I made an appointment with my GP specifically for the purpose of making him say "Your son will be fine after his MMR" and while it hasn't laid my fears to rest completely, it has been some reassurance.

flowerybeanbag · 26/06/2008 14:57

Thursday science would be nice actually as well, to appeal to my rational logical side. Not too sciency, but a bit is ok

Dd hasn't even had her 12mth boosters yet as they were scheduled for Tuesday last but she has a stinkin' cold. I'm going on my hols on 8th July flowery, but I will

flowerybeanbag · 26/06/2008 14:58

mindalina haven't spoken to GP no. Have been asking for reassurance about something else previously and it didn't turn out well, so it wouldn't help me this time.

mankymummy · 26/06/2008 14:59

My DS had it, i was worried beforehand and waited anxiously for weeks afterwards for him to exhibit signs of autism.

He is absolutely fine. And like Perkin far less reaction than to other jabs.

And he did have the other injection at the same time (cant remember what it was for {hangs head in shame}).

flowerybeanbag · 26/06/2008 15:00

It seems to be just one jab he's having, it just says MMR1.

We will go, but I will be panicky I think.

nowwearefour · 26/06/2008 15:00

it is fine. in fact will be giving my dd2 her mmr on 10 july and am certain is the right thing to do

mindalina · 26/06/2008 15:01

Aw flowery I am very lucky with my GP, he quite clearly thinks I am mad as a hatter but humours me every time.

You should have seen his face when 7 months pregnant I arrived in his surgery insisting that the baby was going to force his foot through my chest because he was kicking so hard. Bless him, he just said "It would be very unusual for that to happen you know"

hamandhigh · 26/06/2008 15:03

I am sure that he will be fine, my children didn't even get poorly afterwards.
Of course these doubts will be present, but do your reseaerch, get your facts straight, talk to your practice nurse/GP and make your dcision then.
There seems to be a lot of scaremongering on MN about this, tbh I would research elsewhere for FACTS

Gobbledigook · 26/06/2008 15:05

I'm sure it will be fine.

All 3 of mine vaccinated without incident (not so much as a temperature afterwards).

ThursdayNext · 26/06/2008 15:06

OK

Paper published in 1990s on children with autism and bowel problems. Also noted that some of the parents noticed autistic symptoms at about time of MMR. Could be relevant, could be coincidence, need more studies.

Media later becomes very interested because Tony Blair won't say if his son has had MMR, so it becomes big political issue, particularly with Daily Mail!

So lots of scientists look to see if there is any MMR/autism link
Loads of big studies published, fail to find any link. That's about it really.

PrimulaVeris · 26/06/2008 15:07

It will be fine, fine fine. My two have had whole lot done and I never entertained the thought that they wouldn't. No reaction, nothing.

Think FACTS, think logic, think calm...
