but I had assumed he would need to drop to half dose, or alternate days or some such...

He's ten days in now, and little changes at work are stressing him out.

I feel he's downsliding.........

Should I drag him back to Dr's now, or let him get over coming off them?

Normally you would come off gradually--and only after consulting your GP. I'm on a similar drug and was warned against going cold turkey in case it made all my symptoms come flooding back.

Well, he's adamant that's what his GP said. He says he doesn't need to go back to the Dr's, he promises he'll go if he needs to.....

He does seem a bit less stressed today (mind you, he slept a bit better last night).

He has been having wierd dreams in the last few nights, which he also had when he first started the fluoxetine too.

I'm going to get him some Omega3s, which he didn't take when he was on the drug. See if we can keep him bouyed up that way.

I was on these some years ago. After discussion with my GP, I reduced my dosage to one every other day, then every third day and finally stopped. I don't think stopping like this is recommended.

I know. I know. I'm wondering if he should have taken the last pack like that....

But I've raised the subject twice in two days (and on the day he took the last one). I'm going to get accused of nagging, and adding to his pressure.

Just get him to humour you by googling the name of the drug. I'm sure nhs direct or similar has advice about stopping SSRIs.

MrsSylar · 26/06/2008 22:29

I think fluoxetine is different from the other SSRIs in that it has a much longer half life, and so stopping it abruptly doesn't result in such an acute discontinuation syndrome, as it stays in your system for longer.

I read that too, but the Patient UK site, which is generally pretty good, says this so I think it's a good idea to be cautious...
