Found a lump in my breast - handhold please

I am 36 and a 30G so quite busty and Ive Been having some pain at the side of my left breast for around 4 weeks that at first I thought was ligament strain as it appeared to be after exercise. It started as electric type pain in the side of my breast, particularly when I took my bra off at night but then it started becoming generally sore when I pressed that area of brushed against it. This time I couldn't really feel any lumps.

fast forward to this weekend and as the pain is still there when I press I thought I'd do another breast examination and I can feel a lump in the spot that is sore when I press quite deeply It doesn't feel marble or pea like and round and I can't move it but there definitely feels like a knotty style lump/collection of lumps compared to my other side.

my stomach fell through the floor and now I am petrified this is cancer. I obviously can't do anything until Monday morning when I can call the GP but I'm kicking myself for not going to get seen when it started being sore. I've got two young kids and I'm petrified they are going to be left without a mum. I have awful health anxiety as it is.

Can anyone provide any positive stories or just a handhold to get me through to Monday?

@JustamumaIn my area, I don’t know if this applies to whole of uk, you are able to self refer to a Breast clinic online- no need to wait until Monday, the clinic will likely phone you back Monday to book an appointment

@Justamumaplease disregard my comment as I’ve just realised I’m a week behind- however my comment may help others directed to this thread!

@Justamuma It sounds positive. I’ve been this position twice. If they suspect something sinister, they will tell you. They will not commit to definitely saying it isn’t, which isn’t helpful to you, until biopsy results but there is nothing to suggest it’s dodgy and everything to suggest it isn’t. You wouldn’t expect them to say they thought it looked fine and they’d leave it, they have to biopsy it. I know the anxiety though. It nearly broke me. How will you get the biopsy results? Are they ringing you?

I’ve recently been diagnosed, they were able to tell me from the ultrasound/mammogram straight away that it is cancer, even though it is early and relatively small.

This is exactly what happened to me when I had my first biopsy and the results of which turned out to be fibrocystic glandular tissue. The reason they took the biopsy were for the same reasons they took yours. They are taking a belt and braces approach to this as they want to be 100% sure rather than 99% sure. I know you are scared, I was too but try to be reassured that the consultant wasn’t worried and they would tell you if they suspected something a bit more sinister. Please let us know how you got on. You are going to be ok.

@Benjithedog Thank you, I was lucky that I noticed a dimple in my ‘under boob’ and was able to self-refer, there is no sign it’s spread to my lymph nodes, so hopefully by this time next year it’ll all have been sorted!

This time next year this will all be in the rear view mirror. Thank god it was caught early.

@Justamuma oh wow, that is a long time. I had them within a week both times. Based on what you’ve said, I don’t think you’ve got anything to worry about at all and I think no news in good news. I had to promise myself not to look at the NHS app as no context (no idea how quickly they show on there). I had completely spiralled and lost all rational thought. Hope you get your good news soon! It’s beyond horrible, the waiting. Totally sympathise.

I really wouldn’t be worried about this. They are just making absolutely sure. If they had any fears of cancer, you wouldn’t be waiting four weeks for results. Try not to worry. When I had my biopsy I was called in within about 4 days because I had cancer. They are speedy with these things.

I waited ages for mine -when they finally arrived the letter was dated from about two weeks before.

My daughter had a CAT scan, we waited and waited and eventually decided that no news was good news and stopped chasing it. At her next consultation the rheumatologist just said "oh yeah, that scan was all clear".

Honestly I think once they see it's good news it all goes to the back of the queue.
