Hi! Can anyone help? So every summer almost to the week I develop ibs d which can last up to 12 weeks. It always develops around the week before I go on holiday - it’s crazy. I’m so tired of it. I’m really looking forward to my holiday so I don’t get it! Generally after the morning passes I feel fine. I’ve tried so many things but I do think it’s not an intolerance and more the gut brain connection. I’m just trying psyllium husk from today - does anyone have any tips so I don’t have to live off Imodium? In previous years I’ve seen a gastroenterologist who did scans, fit test etc but concludes it’s ibs d….thanks x

It could be a stress trigger if it is always in the time before you go away. Good stress but nonetheless the anxiety / anticipation might be impacting - it certainly is a trigger for my IBS-d.

I think you are right. I guess I need to figure out how to break the cycle now that I’m in it…..have you ever tried boulardi?

Yes but it had no impact. See also: Symprove. Both worth trying though. I’ve had IBS for 15 years now. The only thing that works for me is consistent low fodmap and trying to manage stress. Ginger tablets help when I’m really bloated.

Colofac goes everywhere with me just in case and if you are away and get the runs try immodium. I would say its stress my daughter has given me grief lately and its gone straight to my stomach

Do you take the colofac three times a day? Thank you - am using Imodium currently

Yes I take it three times a day often at first take a double dose

There may be some correlation with the cortisol awakening response, which some people mistake for feeling anxious when they wake up – as you know, the mind and the gut act in unison (so to speak!). This video might help;

My digestive system interprets stress and excitement the same way, so something scary at work or a concert I've been looking forward to for a year get the same unfortunate response.
Not saying this is a solution but the thing that's helped most is Mounjaro. It slows the digestive system down, so for someone whose system is processing food too quickly it's been delightful as it resets me to normal. Prescription meds for a different problem obviously isn't the way to go but I wonder if there is anything else out there that slows on a similar way.

So I have been on mounjaro for 18 months. It has been great for me for mostly but I still got this problem last summer and now this summer so sadly it doesn’t seem to have stopped that which is annoying X

I have it in the cupboard so just taken one and will carry on with it. Worth trying!

Ah, shit that's annoying. Then my only other advice is bulk buying own brand imodium online and keeping a tab open with the online public toilet map!
Mine flared up after I ate cheese this week. IBS likes to remind you who's boss 😭
