What’s happened? Do you have anyone in real life who is looking out for you?

shellyleppard · 01/07/2026 21:22

@Willow9293 I'm here if you fancy a chat. Hope you feel better soon x

This happened to me last week, and it ended up being 2 nights! All fine now though.
Were you admitted via A&E?

Willow9293 · 01/07/2026 21:28

Aww thanks! I have my partner at the end of the phone and he took me in but had to leave at lunchtime as he has his DC overnight. I’ve been alone since then. Just had CT scan so I can have a lumbar puncture tomorrow, eye issues. I have GAD and health anxiety so on the ceiling. Haven’t had to spend a night in hospital for 30 years! Really teary…

Came in via eye A&E and in the same day emergency unit at mo. It’s been a long day… Live about 45 mins away and lateness of scan and results not really practical to go home as more to come tomorrow

Yes, I went to the doctor with abdominal pains. I didn't expect to be poked and prodded and the local bed manager phoned. I was just looking for good painkillers. I was in for 48 hrs with a raging UTI.

So I can sympathise with going from not expecting to be admitted to being in a hospital bed. I had never been an in patient either. Staff were all lovely though. I got my decent painkillers!

It's funny what I remember about that experience. We all got woken up in the middle of the night when someone got up for a wee and sent a vase of flowers flying. And a lovely nursing auxiliary told us all about how her boyfriend had dumped her. It's a different world and I found I just needed to relax into it.

Thinking of you. I suffer with my MH and know I would find admission really hard so I feel for you.

AtlasPine · 01/07/2026 21:53

Hope you manage to get a little sleep. And that you get safely home tomorrow.

My partner was admitted unexpectedly for 10 nights in December, managed to hold it together just about when in although he had a meltdown when he got home. I feel like such a baby after only 12 hours!!

I went in with a 'viral rash' (GP!) which got worse and ended up being sepsis! I expected some antibiotics and to be sent home - ended up on hideous iv antibiotics for 10 days!
You'll be fine. I've had so many surgeries and stays in (including surgery last week for a complication of January). It's a bit noisy and hectic but compared to the 1970s....!!

Willow9293 · 01/07/2026 22:47

A nurse has just brought me a cheese sandwich and decaf coffee as I hadn’t had anything since this morning being moved from pillar to post.

then my partner called and told me his little DC had said “I want my Willow” so a patient then brought me a tissue!

Bum sore from all the chair sitting

Hi, are you discharged now? I hope everything is ok with you. I have had the experience of a simple day procedure ending up with me being an in patient for days, so I know what it's like.

I have learned my lesson now. I have a small bag ready to go at all times with essentials for an overnight in it, and I put that (it's like a big zipped cloth make up bag so it can be squashed!) in my tote bag any time I go for a procedure.

It worked great last week in fact. I had to have a cardioversion (the paddles on the heart) and was told I would be home by 4pm same day. Not a chance, I was admitted due to complications and boy was I glad I had that emergency bag!

I was in for five days in total, but I got more supplies from family eventually.

In case anyone is wondering what I've got in my Mary Poppins-

Toothbrush and paste
Eye mask
Ear pods (cheap ones)
Long length chargers
Face cream
Travel size dry shampoo, hairbrush and scrunchies.
Emery board (nothing worse than a chipped nail)
Soap. (hospital supplies disposable washcloths and towels).
Spare underwear
T shirt nightie
No need for slippers, they insist on the delightful non slip socks.
A hair claw for keeping the gown together for my dignity lol.

I think that's most things. So nice to have this stuff at hand when the stay is unexpected.

I’m guessing iih? My adult dd got admitted for this via routine eye test and then to a&e after outpatient’s ophthalmology. Not fun and a bit scary. But it’s being well treated now.

Good luck

Yellowpapersun · 05/07/2026 15:19

@palrono thank you, that's really thoughtful of you to type that out. I'm going to do an emergency bag too. I'm 64 so you never know!

@Willow9293
Hope you'll be home soon.
