Weight just not coming off after miscarriages

I’m at a bit of loss so thought I’d post here for some advice!

I fell pregnant for the first time earlier this year but sadly miscarried naturally, we then fell pregnant again for the second time straight after without a period in between but then miscarried again which required surgery. Between the two pregnancies/miscarriages I have gained 2 stone- my own fault entirely. Just not exercising and eating crap to get through the day.

For the last 6 weeks I’ve been trying to get back on track- I’ve calorie counted religiously, I’m back to working out 6 times a week (a mixture of hiit and running) yet the scales aren’t budging and I can’t for the life of me work out why. I’m testing negative since the second miscarriage so I don’t think it’ll be hormonal, I do have PCOS but my cycles pre miscarriages were regular and we conceived easily so I’m not sure this would have any impact really. I’ve been to the doctors and had bloods taken which have all came back normal and they just gave me a sympathetic look and said I must be overeating due to stress but I’m tracking everything religiously so I know I’m absolutely in a calorie deficit (I lost a fair bit of weight last year ready for TTC so I’m a pro at it at this point!) but since the miscarriages I’m just gaining and losing my the same 7lb and it’s making me miserable!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I’m sorry for your losses Flowers

The truth is most people don’t lose weight because they are eating too many calories and don’t realise it. Are you tracking on an app? The only time my weight loss stalled was when I added exercise, because it gives you the exercise cals to eat back! It also massively overestimates any calories burned. You are better off sticking to your calorie target and not tracking exercise, just accept it’s great for cardiovascular health and ignore any suggested calorie burn.

Also, how many calories is your target? Work out your tdee. It goes down as you lose weight so may need adjusting. You only need to overeat by 100 calories per day to put on a stone in a year, that’s a couple of inches of baguette (no filling) or a slice of bread, a banana or 1.25 biscuits etc. it’s shockingly easy for calories to add up.

Are you accurately weighing everything, or guestimating portion sizes? Are you adding everything you drink too?

Also, don’t rely on calories being accurate on any app if they are entered by the general public. I once spent several months happily eating something I thought was a couple of hundred calories, when it was actually nearer 400!

Check labels, it’s easy to get caught out thinking something is only 86 calories, because the front say 86 calories per 100g, but the item actually weights 250g.
