I haven't heard of that. I'll look it up. You have my sympathies.

Ilovemyshed · 28/06/2026 20:28

I use Hycosan drops, have you tried them?

Isitsticky · 28/06/2026 20:32

I looked it up. Then I wondered what other new treatments are available since I last looked. Vision Express offer this, which is even more expensive. Years ago I had a treatment costing hundreds of pounds which didn't really work as the meibomian glands on my right eye are atrophied. Can't remember what it was called.

Wow that is expensive!
I do use Hycosan in the Red bottle. Just seems that lately (maybe the weather, maybe the aircon unit or fans) it seems so much worse.
My eyes get so itchy, they feel heavy and gritty.
When I went for an eye test in Boots they recommended the treatment but as I had never heard of it so wanted to find someone who has tried it - if it actually makes a difference I would do it but is it a gimmick?

Are your eyes dry because of some condition like Sjogren's or something? I have that and I wouldn't try any "new" treatment unless it had either been recommended by my optician or ophthalmologist or I had run it by them and they said it would be useful for my eyes.

slughater · 28/06/2026 21:34

I was recommended to do some combination of warm compresses and massaging the eyelids, they gave me a leaflet from the Royal College of Opthamologists (or some offical sounding body) but is was too much of a faff so I just use the hycosan drops.

Earlgreyandcake · 28/06/2026 21:56

I had this Specsavers for £110 - much better

Isitsticky · 29/06/2026 07:17

What did you have, @Earlgreyandcake ?

Came on here to say this. I also have Sjogrens. None of these new treatments work for us (I am in a Sjogrens support group). If you have Sjogrens generally not much helps except maybe some of the disease modifying drugs used for lupus (which often overlaps with Sjogrens) ie hydroxy, mycophenolate etc. You can get PF drops 0.4 on prescription- that’s what they’re called, the brand name, and they have double the active ingredient of the Hycosan Red.

Chasingsquirrels · 29/06/2026 07:39

I've had the red light treatment (as part of a trial into whether adding in blue light improved the treatment - I got both red and blue) at the Aston eye hospital.
It didn't have any noticeable effect on my condition, in terms of measurable clinical factors.
The doctor undertaking the trial was really surprised, as the red light alone is usually a successful treatment.
He didn't have any more suggestions past general eye hygiene.

Earlgreyandcake · 29/06/2026 07:41

Zest - was much more comfortable- still need my drops but not as often

Isitsticky · 29/06/2026 13:14

ETA - apologies for repeated post (and email)

ginoclocksomewhere · 29/06/2026 14:12

If you have evaporative dry eye disease, then it could make a huge difference. If you’ve been recommended lid wipes and warm compresses in the past, definitely consider it.

Peoniesallgone · 30/06/2026 22:12

I use the Hycosan night gel too. It is very thick and you can't see properly after but it does help.

BlackSwan · 01/07/2026 07:33

Omega 7 is good for dry eyes. Sea buckthorn oil capsules. Not cheap. I took 4 at a time to make a difference...
