Hi, I had a painful hysterscopy without pain relief with biopsies taken earlier in the week now experiencing trapped wind, pain, headache and general fatigue, is this normal and do you think it’s reasonable to take some time off work

I had the same procedure 10 years go and was fine. However, if you are feeling unwell it’s completely reasonable to take some time off. Hope you feel better soon.

Have you been back to work since the test?

Judging · 28/06/2026 15:02

if you feel unable to work, of course it’s not unreasonable to take time off sick.

Everyone reacts differently. I had one under GA, and felt perfectly fine. My colleague had one and took 2 days off.

It is almost a week later - so unusual to suddenly get side effects from the procedure so will likely be unrelated

Sounds like it’d be worth speaking to a real life HCP to think about complications.

I would get in touch with your surgery tomorrow as having symptoms after a week sounds strange. I know some women have a tough time with hysteroscopy, but AFAIK that's same day, not a week later. However, sick leave is for people are unwell, if you are unwell then take a day off.

Get back in touch with the gynae team. I had one yesterday but luckily under general. I was told any problems call the gynae department at the hospital.
