You could try running outside (where the light doesn't flicker) and see if that is better. If it is, then it was probably the light and not the exercise itself.

I find that at time when I am in better shape I generally get fewer migraines. Running doesn't stop a migraine in it's tracks. In fact, I believe it is supposed to make it worse.

Those light sound like a prime candidate for migraine trigger.

I've been told they go after menopause, too. Maybe I'll have some more babies until my time of life kicks in!

kiddiz I have a yogalates dvd that I use. It gives you an option of slightly easier positions to start with and you can build it up gradually. I still can't do all of it but when I do the positions, I can feel my muscles saying 'thank you thank you thank you'

PInkyminkyohnooo · 26/06/2008 20:28

lol I read yogalates and thought you were talking about a yoghurt based milky coffee substitute or something

RCT · 26/06/2008 20:40

Sorry - don't have time to read all posts properly but noone seems to have mentioned Zomig which I now take (oro-dispersible - no water needed and works faster). Imigran used to knock me out for the rest of the day. With Zomig, I just need 2 hours or so to recover.

Did take 10mg of propanolol for a bit when I had lots of migraines but stopped when they got less frequent.

Mirena has made things slightly worse for me but tolerable compared with having another baby !

RubySlippers · 26/06/2008 21:16

goodness - what a lot of great advice and tips

am going to check out the magnesium

i have done yoga tonight and couldn't hold one of the positions because i am still feeling sickly

will see what my GP recommends next week ,,,

I better add that I don't try to do the yogalates with the migraine , rather as a general keeping stress levels down.

noddyholder · 26/06/2008 21:27

syndol with coke works for me if i take them quick enough and embaressingly sex works too if I can be bothered when feeling so rough. If the syndols don't fully zap it I add 2 aspirin and that usually does it but syndol do make me sleep so no good in the daytime unless you can have a few hours to lie down HTH

HumphreysCorner · 26/06/2008 21:52

Oh, am going to check out the magnesium. On day 4 of my monthly migraine. My Dr took me off Immigran 100 mg and swapped it for Almotriptan-not as good but too expensive to give me Immigran. Must have another baby to get 9 months free of migraines.

Oh Humphrey poor you, 4 days of migraine. Mine regularly reduce me to tears. Last really bad one I had came on while I was at my Mums. She lives about 50 mins drive away and I had to get back to pick dd up from school. I was on the phone to ds1 trying to get him to get ds2 to collect her for me and they're arguing about it. (ds1 can't go cause he can't walk that far and ds2 is just an awkward sod ..teenagers!) I was in tears in the car my head hurt so much and nausea had kicked in and all I want is for him to walk 200 yards down the road and collect his sister so I can take my time driving home so I don't kill myself or someone else. Trouble with having another baby is they turn into teenagers!!!

fymandbean · 29/06/2008 20:36

avoid the triggers as much as possible

Immediately take soluble painkiller as soon as you feel the start of a migraine (paracetamol or aspirin) - your system slows down so often this is the only thing that'll get into you quickly enough

Get the doctor to prescribe zolmatriptin or similar as it works wonders (but I can't drive with it as it makes me woozy)

Rest and drink lots of water

buy a migracap

RubySlippers · 02/07/2008 14:07

have been to see GP today who has prescribed Maxalt wafers

because i don't have a lot of time between getting the warning signs and a migraine developing he thinks the wafers will be better as they will work faster

i can also take painkillers as well

so, will see how i get on

Just wanted to come back to this and post a link to what appears to be a pretty good website. www.relieve-migraine-headache.com/index.html

Does anyone take pizotifen? I have just given up on the beta blockers (propranolol). I have just started pizotifen. A bit too soon to give any kind of evaluation. But, man, do they ever make me tired. I know this is a common side effect. Just wondered how other cope. When do you take it? How much do you take?
