Called back after second routine mammogram and feeling very anxious

I had my first mammogram 3 years ago when I was almost 51 and was recalled for more tests. It was an incredibly worrying time and I was given the all clear.

I had my second routine mammogram three weeks ago and have been called back AGAIN. Last time I was reassured by the fact they had no images to compare to. But I can't rely on that this time. I am swinging between being totally terrified, accepting of the fact that it's probably bad news, and thinking that it's just the same issue as it was last time.

Appointment is tomorrow at 10. DH is coming with me. Not going to be a good day.

I have been recalled and tested on more than one occasion and luckily so far have had the all clear. If there is any change, they just want to check what it is. I seem to have new lumps of various types every time. Wishing you lots of luck and have my fingers crossed for you.

ThanK you. No lumps, no puckering, so if it is something, it’s early.

I've been called back twice and all was fine. Apparently I have very dense breast tissue which makes it harder to see the photos.

Thank you. It has also just occurred to me that I have lost about 10kg since my last mammogram which could also be a factor. (Deliberate, not unintentional weight loss).

I’ve also been called back. It’s so nerve wracking, I really sympathise. When I was called back I had a second mammogram, then they said they still couldn’t tell so I had to have an ultrasound in one particular area and it was found to be a couple of very tiny cysts. Chances are, everything will be fine.

My DH came with me for the callback, too. It really helped with the waiting around.

Shit, isn't it. Very stressful and I have spent all day on reddit and chatgpt..

How did it go OP? Hope all is ok x

Sorry, meant to update. All is well.

I had apparently an area of concern on my left breast which the mammographer marked with a biro. I had a repeat mammogram and then another x-ray which concentrated on the area highlighted. Sat for about 20 minutes and called through to see a lovely doctor who showed me the initial mammogram which highlighted a very white spot in amongst darker tissue, and how that the second mammogram had shown that it was nothing sinister. She then gave me a thorough physical examination as a second check and sent me home.

I found the whole experience so stressful and told her i'd been recalled after my first mammogram too. She said this was just very bad luck but that they always err on the side of caution. All of the staff from nurses to receptionists and doctors are so kind though.

Excellent news, so pleased for you. I have a high family risk of breast cancer so been having annual mammograms since the age of 40 but now I'm 50 it's back to every 3 years the same as everyone else. It's so scary getting called back though, what a relief when everything is ok x
