Can anyone help me understand my thyroid blood test results?

Thyroid results.

know little about interpreting thyroid results. Will try attach them.

female 34, family history of thyroid issues - mother and her father, my later grandfather but also some history on my grandmothers side.

I am always tired, but I do have an anxiety and depression and on 200mg sertraline. I also take a low dose statin as my cholesterol is slightly high - generally not high enough for statins under usual circumstances but I have a genetic component - high Lp (a).

also had other tests done such as full blood count, liver function etc but that all seems good!

only had the blood test the night before last and I doubt I’ll be able to speak to GP straight away!

It seems free T4 is within normal range but the thyroid function is outside the normal range. They are likely to contact you to discuss your symptoms and potential medication.

T4 is low and TSH creeping up
subclinical hypothyroidism but some doctors won’t treat until TSH over 10

Thanks both. My main and only significant symptom is tiredness and fatigue, I also get palpitations but I always have on and off!

In the UK the reference (normal) range for TSH is 0.27-4.2. Yours isn't that far outside the reference range so if you want medication for it (personally I recommend - ideally your TSH should be around 1, especially if you might ever be ttc) you might need to point out to your GP that your symptoms are affecting your quality of life. They generally start you on the lowest possible dose and gradually titrate upwards, testing you every 3 months until bloods are right/ symptoms are gone (which is why it took 2 flipping years for me to get the right dose 🙄)

Assuming you have been tested for iron/ vit D / B12?

Not TTC, my baby making days are done. Had my children at 19&23.

it’s the tiredness that most affects me!

thanks

Serum iron and that was marked ‘normal’. Not sure on vit d and b12, it might be the case that not every result has been added to the nhs yet!

What was your Lp(a) out of interest? I also had mine tested due to family history but v few other people I know have had it done. I’m trying statins but they don’t make me feel very well.

in 2024 mine was 1017mg/L. Cholesterol was borderline between needing medication or not. Some early history of heart disease but mainly males.

I haven’t found anyone else who had it measured in mg/L so results can be confusing.

thankfully I seem okay on statins but it’s definitely not uncommon to feel unwell on them, it seems pretty common!

Also, the LP (a) test was so random. I’m not even sure how it came about. I had lipids checked because because of a family history form I needed to do and some early history, but I hadn’t heard of it at all until the result showed up on my app, even my GP didn’t know anything about it. It kept me up at night. But I’m finally less anxious about it now!

I’ve had the same TSH level recently. My symptoms were tiredness and hair loss. Doctor advised raising ferritin and Vitamin D levels and retesting in 3 months.

Don’t wait for them to get in touch with you. Contact your surgery and ask for a follow up appointment
