Can you get chicken pox twice?

Zippidy · 23/06/2008 21:24

My ds had it last year and I swear that today it looks as if he's getting it again - same itchy rash started on tummy and spreading.

Everyone is saying no, it's not possible, but looks just like last year and someone in his class had it about 3 weeks ago.

Could it be chickenpox??

no idea but get it checked by a doc if accompanied by a temperature. Would think it unlikely to be chickenpox again though.

MumtoBen · 23/06/2008 21:26

Yes, DS1 had chicken pox when he was 6 months old and again when he was 3.

Zippidy · 23/06/2008 21:27

Cheers, am going to doc's tomorrow. No temperature just lots of itchy little blister like spots.

Yes as far as I know you can get it twice, would definately take to gp to confirm though.

PuppyMonkey · 23/06/2008 21:29

I heard on telly that chicken pox virus never leaves the body,it goes to live at the bottom of your spine - forever

dizzydixies · 23/06/2008 21:29

yes me me me - I am a freak of nature according to my GP as I had it twice, once when I was a child and again when I was about 24

get some Nelsons Tea Tree Antiseptic cream - its WONDERFUL stuff regardless if its chicken pox or not

could also be moloscum which can look a bit like chicken pox - have had this too

onepieceoflollipop · 23/06/2008 21:31

Yes definitely can. I had it twice - confirmed by GP both times as well. Apparently you can have it the first time but not severely enough to build up your immunity to it. In fact I think you can get it more than twice but would be highly unusual. I had to have a blood test while pg as they were querying my level of immunity.

Best to get it confirmed as others have said. dd1 had what I definitely knew was cp as half the nursery were down with it. GP was adamant it as viral rash and he was right. (disappeared after 1 day with a couple of doses of piriton)

we are special

Zippidy · 23/06/2008 21:33

Thanks everyone! Was feeling like paranoid overprotective mum - feel much better that my ds is a freak of nature with a virus living at the bottom of his spine

DD - what is moloscum? Does it itch? (Sorry if personal! )

ds2 has had it 3 times(i think) confirmed by gp.and once unconfirmed.annoying child.

onepieceoflollipop · 23/06/2008 21:40

The second time I had it was 9 days before my wedding. .

I went to GP and laughed and said "this so looks like cp but of course it can't be as I had it as a child" How wrong I was.

dizzydixies · 23/06/2008 21:45

onepieceoflollipop be careful how we shake incase we pass anything between us

zippidy moloscum was desc to me as a child skin condition that presented as similar blood blisters to chicken pox - will google it and see if I can make more sense

onepieceoflollipop · 23/06/2008 21:47

We shall probably be safe, I am in the Midlands and most of mnet seem to be South East!

dizzydixies · 23/06/2008 21:51

oh no - second time I had it my friend phoned me and said

just to let you know I've got Chicken pox incase you get it - I laughed of course - how wrong I was

more bloody fool me!! the horrible thing was my gran had a stroke and I wasn't allowed in to see her and the day I was given the all clear to visit she passed

also had to go to a grad ball before the spots cleared completely and whilst the alcohol eased the itching all the photos are taken from my less spotty side

dizzydixies · 23/06/2008 21:55

zippidy have googled it and its spelt moloscum and some of the pics look a bit nasty - won't post a link, just incase I frighted you - the ones on google are quite extreme and mine are nothing like that - sorry to have mentioned it

Zippidy · 23/06/2008 22:03

Thanks, won't look, am going to bed now - will have bad dreams!

Will go to gp in morning, am sure work will think I'm taking the mick! Was only last year that I was off for a week for same reason!

for you for having it when your gran was ill.

Night x
