Nappy rash

DD is 8 months old and has really bad nappy rash - possibly teething or having a cold? But she has never really had it this badly before and she has it for over two weeks. It sort of clears up and then comes back. We have switched her from real nappies to disaposible, use nappy cream. She is at nursery most days, but they say they change her regulalary (?). Any himts, suggstions or tips or do I just have to sit it out?

Have you tried Metanium cream? Seems to work very quickly for us with teething induced nappy rash, when other things don't.

Sudocrem has always worked when my kids have had sore bottoms.

What ended up working for my son (suggestion of his GP) was a bit of Sudocrem on the bottom then Metanium over it. Not a lot of either was required-- the Sudocrem healed the sores and the Metanium kept the moisture out. We kept up with very light applications of the Metanium afterwards and didn't have any further problems. (I'm a big Metanium fan, also.)

When my DS1 was about 6 months he filled his nappy during the night so I didn't find it until the morning...by which time it had dried hard in places onto his little bum.
The nappy rash was HORRENDOUS! in places it even bleed. I applied a thick layer of sudocrem after each(more frequent)nappy chance and after a few days the rash disappeared...however the guilt I felt disappear with it!
I swear by sudocrem after that experience.

I found that switching to disposables made my ds's nappy rash worse - think it was exposure to the chamicals inthe gel that he wasn't used to. I used a fleece or silk liner in the real nappy and loads of zinc and castor oil cream (all the nappy rash crems seem to contail lanolin, which I am allergic to) to protect his little bum, and it was better inside 5 days. I swear by Sudocrem. Again, like Podmog's Metatamium warning, I do have a friend whose baby was 'burnt' by Sudocrem although I've not had a problem with it. I guess it depends in part on how sensitive you baby's skin is.

One thing that springs to mind is whether it's a fungal infection rather than 'normal' nappy rash. DS1 had this and a tube of Canestan cleared it up nicely. Have a word with your GP or HV.
