What are these little red marks all over my arms/upper body?

I’ve had these across my arms and upper body for at least 12 years so I’m not concerned, and I’ve recently had a full set of clear bloods that make me feel better too.

But I am so curious about what they are? They’re almost like little blood vessels at the surface, if I scratch them they go away but then almost refill? I would love to get rid of them so if anyone has any ideas please help!

I've got them too OP and have also had them many years. I showed them to a GP once who dismissed them and said they're harmless. I can't remember what they're called. I'm in my 60s now so they don't bother me much as they're always covered up.

BrownyMousy · 28/05/2026 07:09

Could it be these? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cherry_angioma

If so, I've had them for ages and Dr told me they were totally harmless. Some are a bit raised, some not.

I do think it could be, just lots of little ones

Glad they’re harmless! I find them quite unsightly but nobody else has even noticed them (or if they have they’ve not said anything!)

They are spider naevi - harmless unless you suddenly develop a load as I think can be related to liver issues. I’ve had them for years as well - can increase with oestrogen so you might get more when on the pill. Laser may sort the out if you are really bothered

66babe · 28/05/2026 07:12

I think they are called Peteciae , unsure of correct spelling , harmless

chirrupybird · 28/05/2026 07:13

I was told it might be something to do with platelets when I was pregnant, they were doing some tests but baby arrived before the results so I never found out. My dad had them too so I think something inherited, some of mine are quite big and raised.

JumpLeadsForTwo · 28/05/2026 07:15

Ah, I think I have slightly different spots to what you are describing, and @BrownyMousyis describing your type

Interesting! My liver function was all good and I’ve had them a long time, I’ve just always wondered if there was an easy way to get rid

I have thousands of cherry angiomas that look like that - apparently caused by hormones. I had so very many appear on my tummy during labour! But I had loads before that and I’ve had more appear during menopause.

Hormones in what way?

You can have them zapped with diathermy. I go to a lady and she literally touches them with the probe and they immediately disappear. Very satisfying!

candycanetime · 29/05/2026 22:18

I pay £80 for 20 minutes and she does as many blemishes as possible in that time. She did all of my cherry angioma, some sebborhic keratosis, a load of skin tags and a little cyst!

Changes in hormones - which made sense to me as my first few appeared when I was a teen, then most of them appeared during labour (it was then a nurse told me what they were called and why I got them) and since menopause. Mine are mostly like tiny pin pricks but I do have larger ones that I’ve had since I was a teen. So I guess it’s when hormones are fluctuating.

This ^^ is what you’ve got. Very common.
Don’t worry.
A suitably qualified practitioner could cauterize them for you but research first,

hnwis · 30/05/2026 08:16

Yes cherry things! They are caused by high oestrogen. Mine developed in peri menopause. Harmless

Yes all of mine are pin pricks. Thinking of it I got them first around when I started my periods

Should I be concerned by high oestrogen? I’m only 27.

Fair enough, but you asked me - a stranger on the internet- if you should be worried about high oestrogen..!

Interesting. I don’t know if I’ve ever been high in oestrogen but I do know I’ve been low in progesterone!
