Low iron results; 3% Transferrin saturation index etc

I'm looking for a bit of advice regarding low iron results from a blood test. I've had the results today:
Transferrin saturation index is 3%
Haemoglobin estimation is 94 g
Serum iron level is 3.1 umol
Serum vitamin B12 is 150 ng

I also have results of the HbA1c at 44mmol, and a high glucose level, although the doctor has sent an appointment for this test to be retaken.

My platelets and red cells etc are within usual range.
Other than the results explaining why I feel how run down I do on a daily basis, what practical things can I put in place, and what should I be asking the doctor for?

Thank you

How old are you? Are you vegetarian? Do you have heavy periods?

What's your ferritin level?

I'm 40 years old, not a vegetarian. I do have extremely heavy periods, enough to keep me home for a few days each month.

I've just checked, and I can't find any results for this. I may be looking for the incorrect wording in the test result name; however, I can't see anything about ferritin.

Thank you, that's very useful information for my doctor appointment

They can't establish whether you are iron deficient without your ferretin level. The NHS can be rubbish at recognising iron deficiency in the absence of anemia, but it can make you feel awful.

My haematologist says a ferritin level below 50 merits treatment.

Given your heavy periods it would be surprising if you weren't defficient.

I would push your GP to test your ferritin level and then wave the newly updated NICE guidelines at them.

Or if your level is low, and finances or health insurance allow, you can get an infusion privately. The Iron Clinic in London is good.
