Has anyone had this? I've been waking in the morning from vertigo when moving my head and AI suggested Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo.

DH had this. He was given some pills for if it was bad but also some exercises that seemed to cure it.

I had it for a few years about a decade ago. It was completely misdiagnosed by my (just out of training) GP and I only found out what it was by chance. It resolved by itself and hasn't come back.

If you google Brandt-Daroff exercises, you can find NHS exercise sheets which show you how to resolve it. Worth giving it a go for a few days.

I've had that in the past and resolved it by doing the Epley manoeuvre which you can find videos of on youtube. It took me a couple of tries and it triggered the vertigo very strongly while I was doing it but it worked.

Yes I have it occasionally, once really bad where I couldn’t lift my head from the pillow. A couple of times where it’s been a lot milder. I do the epley manoeuvre and it does work. If you are going to do this however I recommend asking someone to help you and getting a sick bucket handy as you may need to throw up whilst doing it. First off search up how to work out which side it’s on as you only do the manoeuvre for the side affected.

Thank you! I think I'm going to ask an ENT friend to show me the manoeuvres. Interesting about the sick bucket - I do indeed feel similar to the way I do when I get motion sickness.

Hi, mine was diagnosed by an ENT doctor, and I had the Epley manoeuvre. It is much more effective if done by someone else. Some chiropractors are trained to do it, too

@CeramiqThere is an injection to help with sickness. If the episode is long lasting and you cannot get out of bed, a doctor needs to administer it and they probably won’t.

I get vertigo (no idea what sort?) and it’s impossible to get out of the house. im dizzy the second I stand up. My head swims and I’m very discombobulated and very tired. Emley might help but when I contacted my GP about vertigo he said you’ll just have to wait until it goes. 2 weeks later it had. I did get dh to do the manoeuvre for me.

2nd time I was terrified. It came on Friday - flying to Canada on the Tuesday. Desperate. After a 111 consultation, we were informed of the jab. DH was pleading for me! I don’t know what it is chemically, but don’t be fobbed off - you don’t have to wait 2 weeks to recover. I was mad at my GP. Touch wood - not had it since but it stops you doing anything!

I suffered a bout of vertigo a year or two ago. It was bloody miserable but only lasted about a week. The gp put it down to viral and gave me some tablets for it.

redboxerclub · 26/05/2026 19:30

Yes I’ve had lots of vertigo. It’s awful. At worst I was bed bound for 6weeks with labyrinthintis after I collapsed at work unable to move at all.

I’ve had three medications- prochlorperazine, beta histine and cinnarazine.

cinnarazinw is used for travel sickness and is OTC as sturgeon if you are desperate

You need someone to perform the epley manoeuvre for sure! It cured mine right away but it does send your vertigo wild whilst being done.
