i have mentioned it to doctor once, and doctor friends a few times, but their reaction seems to be that if i am not worried about ti, then neither are they. his nursery teacher used to stress about ti, but she was a bit odd.
should i worry? is it an indicator of something? he is going to seven this month. should he have stopped doing this by now?
any advice, or guidance much appreciated

Can't give advice or guidance but will watch thread with interest as dd(8) does this.

She can walk normally but as soon as she takes her shoes off she walks on her toes as does her cousin.

stitch · 21/06/2008 22:44

thats ds!
although even in shoes, one foot goes a bit inwards, and sometimes even in shoes he is on tiptoes. and his shoes wear down in a funny way. well, differently to how mine wear down.

Stitch I would go back to your GP if your DD struggles to walk in any other way, sometimes toe walking can constrict the achilles tendon and physio might be needed to help sort out the problem.

One of my ds's friends does this (hes 5) and has recently had some sort of op for it. He has splints to wear at nightm. I believe they are trying to stretch the ligaments in hism heels.m He had a wheelchair for if he had to go far and bandages on hism feet but was still at school and managing fine. might be worth finding out more?

short post as laptop on blink but wanted to say something. apols for random 'm's and typing!

Purplepillow · 21/06/2008 22:55

My dd is quite hard on her shoes especially on outer sides of heals, do you think I should get gp to look at her too?

splishsplosh · 21/06/2008 22:55

dd has been followed up by the community paediatric consultants because of problems at birth, in case she had any developmental problems as a result - at one visit, when she was about 20 months, she walked on her tiptoes a bit while we were at an appointment, and they did seem slightly concerned, so guess might be worth asking for it to be checked out

notasheep · 21/06/2008 22:58

my niece walked on her tip toes and it was left so late to sort it out that at the moment she has to crawl up the stairs! she cant walk up them as her muscles are so short and she is 10 years old!

gigglewitch · 21/06/2008 22:59

if worried then ask gp for a physio referral? I only think it is a cause for concern if he's complaining of ankles or legs hurting, tbh.
my DD does this she's only 2yo, but also has hypermobile joints, in-toeing and pretty much fell over her own feet til she got orthotic boots earlier this year. Am sooooo chuffed that she can now run which she couldn't do before. She complained a lot about sore legs and feet, and i worried about it damaging her joints as her walking was so weird, and as you say stitch the most odd wear on her shoes.
Use your mum-instinct, i think.
BTW, we have a 7yo ds who always walked with his feet turned in, but when we talked about it with him we asked him to make sure he walks straight, and most of the time he does. have no clue what it is all about

Purplepillow · 21/06/2008 23:05

My dd has extra bendy elbows and is fairly often complaining about pains in her legs which I put down to growing pains.

Will contact gp and see what he thinks.

Thanks everyone for the advice and especially stitch for starting this thread

stitch · 21/06/2008 23:07

My son did this too - for different reasons, which I will explain in a mo!

Q Does your lo who walks on tip toe also have their arms up in the air as well?

odd q but I do have a reason for asking

stitch · 21/06/2008 23:09

no
?

Purplepillow · 21/06/2008 23:11

No.

Yurtgirl · 21/06/2008 23:15

Its just that my ds did this from the moment he could walk - complete with arms all over the place.

I didnt think anything of it until it was suggested by someone I vaguely knew that this way of walking/arms can indicate the child may be on the autistic spectrum

They were right - he is
He still does it, arms especially, tiptoe less so

Yurtgirl · 21/06/2008 23:17

Two "no" answers, different problem altogether then!

I must find out whether the tiptoe - autistic thing is true (I just heard a rumour really but its that comment that first made us think that ds was ASD)

stitch · 21/06/2008 23:19

thank you for that info though yurtgirl. everylittle bit helps.

I walked on my toes till I was 5 but it was because I'd spent so long in one of those bouncy things that you hang from door frames!!!!
