DS is a student and has just asked whether he has been vaccinated against meningitis. I am sure he has but all I can find is this summary which isn’t very clear. How would you interpret this?! I think it means he was given the meningitis and not HPV?

I think you are right - hpv normally given in a different school year to DTP and menACWY

Friolero · 15/05/2026 22:51

HPV is given in year 8 and the DTP booster and Men ACWY are both given in year 9.

Thanks so much. He was 13 on the date shown, so year 9. That’s reassuring.

Your son won't have been vaccinated against meningitis strain b which is the most active strain that caused the outbreak in Kent and this week in Reading. You have to pay for it privately.

Men ACWY lasts 5 years so if he got it at 13 and going to university, he may wish to get a booster to last the uni years.

Your son has been vaccinated against Meningitis ACWY but not against Meningitis B. The outbreaks in Kent, Dorset and Reading were all Meningitis B. If your son wants protection from.Men B, you will need to get him vaccinated privately. Vaccinations are around £110 per injection and he would need a course of two injections.
