Feel like I am always ill & no idea why. Have had multiple bouts of norivirus over the past couple of years. Last one was in February while I was on a weekend away in London. Often feel nauseous & have an upset tummy. Started again today & im sick of it. Don’t think it’s noro virus this time but running to the loo all the time & just feel wiped out with no energy. Im in my 50s & eat well & exercise. Never been ill really until now.

Diverticulitis? I don’t know much about it but my mum was telling me she had it recently and I googled the symptoms. It sounds just like this. If it is there will be trigger foods

Blacksheepagain · 15/05/2026 20:26

Any idea what the trigger foods are?

No idea for diverticulitis but it might be gluten sensitivity or even coeliac disease. I was diagnosed very late with no family history but always ill when away from home (looking back I can see it was because I ate more cake, pastries, bread etc when awayas treat food)

My mum has it. There are trigger foods like beans, leeks etc. Have a look at a low FODMAP diet, Becky Excell does excellent recipes which include low FODMAP and gluten free. You may need antibiotics to clear an infection. I’d go to the doctor for a diagnosis as it’s not easy to live with. X

I lived my life like this - very life limiting. Pharmacist suggested Alforex probiotic ( over the counter) and i've not looked back. I also make home made delicious kombucha drinks which helps my gut hugely

IBS? Stress?
Probiotics help some people, but not me so far.

Have you been to the GP, I'm sure you have. If not go at once, or as soon as a slot becomes available. Ask for tests. Any changes to bowel habits needs to be checked out and they may order a gastroscopy/colonoscopy. That will tell whether or not you have ulcers, Helicobacter Pylori, diverticulitis or anything else in the gut/bowel area. I think you need to do this if you haven't already.

My experience was feeling nauseous regularly but it passed quickly, then other stomach issues like vague pain and discomfort and going off food for a while, and only able to eat certain things. I had gastroscopy/colonoscopy and they found H Pylori which was treated successfully, I'm much better now, but take PPI every day as a form of protection. I also have diverticulosis and polyps, but no symptoms. Just goes to show we can't always self diagnose!

You can be tested for Helicobacter is a less invasive way by giving a sample.

Yes, that could be a first step, like urea breath or stool test, but H Pylori doesn't always cause bowel issues, so get both done if possible! A biopsy during endoscopy is highly accurate also.

I had to stay off PPI for two weeks prior to testing and when being tested for eradication also.
