Hi , I don’t know if anyone can reply but I’ve had ongoing hip pain for 5 years , Dr’s dismissed it and said bursitis, however it’s got worse and I’m in pain daily and stiffness
I eventually got an MRI through sending a message to my practice physio he sent a referral for hip and lumbar xray
The results have shown normal lumbar degeneration due to my age but nothing of concern but my hip diagnosis is a laberal tear with cysts and bursitis , I’ve got an appointment with the Orthopaedics next week and I don’t know why Im so nervous , I don’t know what to expect

Does anyone know what the first appointment entails please ? Any advice ? I’ve waited so long for this

I can't help with the first appointment but I'm in a similar position. Had hip pain for a while, MRI showed labral tear and also hip impingement. Was waiting for a consultant appointment and then the pain worsened significantly and I ended up in A&E via 111. Had another MRI yesterday via A&E and have just been called in to see a consultant on Wednesday to discuss results and a treatment plan. I am SO nervous about it as I am so desperate to be out of the cycle of hip pain flare ups. My expectation is that they will try an ultrasound guided cortosteroid injection first, although ultimately I think surgery is the only way of fixing the labrum in the long run.

Hi, so at the first appt they will examine you, checking range of movements in legs, pelvis, hips and back etc and likely palpate the area to see what causes pain. They will also likely go through the mri with you as well. Then they will say if this is something treatable with surgery, pain relieving injections or physiotherapy. You will get to decide how you want to proceed based on the options given to you.

Thankyou so much allmycagesweremental , I don’t know why I’m so nervous , I’ve been suffering with this pain for so long I can’t remember what it’s like to be pain free

I fully understand how your feeling I’m dreading my appointment , I have written down some questions so I’m prepared I can’t afford not to I’ve waited a long time for this . I wouldn’t mind having a joint injection to see if it’s the tear or the bursitis that is causing my pain . I’ve also got grade 4 Chondral degenerative hip apparently they don’t like repairing the labrum with this but we will see what happens . Good luck 🤞
