Febrile convulsions - how common to stop breathing?

DS (nearly 2) had another febrile convulsion last night. But this time he stopped breathing for about half a minute. He started again of his own accord and apparently that does happen sometimes with convulsions.

But I want to know how likely it is that he'll stop breathing again if he has another fit. The fits are awful enough, but seeing your baby go blue round the lips is just terrible. He's got another high temperature this evening (yes, we are doing all you can - alternating Para and Ibup, dressing coolly, checking on him every murmur, sleeping with all doors between us open) so I'm sitting here worrying that he's going to stop breathing again.

Any one know anything about this?

Oh poor ds. I am afraid i don't know anything about stopping breathing but just wanted to show you some support until someone comes around who does know... We have a poorly ds as well (he's 2.5) who has been running high fevers for the past 48hours. Neither the calpol nor the ibuprofen seems to do the trick (we are also alternating), and his temperature has not dropped beneath 38.6 (this morning).

I was just wondering myself when do you call the gp? When the only symptom they have is a fever (even such a high one), but they seem ok (ds2 even played outside today, and was running with older brother in the garden etc). Do i still call, or can you manage with tepid water/baths, no/little clothing and the paracetamol/ibuprofen????

Not a GP, but remember being told that a warm bath was better than a cool one, but let them airdry (rather than drying completely with a towel) as that brings down the temperature.

Perhaps someone more qualified than me could comment on this tip.

Sounds horrible though, and hope your little ones get better soon.
