Quitting sugar

Has anyone successfully quit sugar? Any tips or recommendations on how to do it?
I cannot get through the day without it. I've tried going cold turkey but rarely make it past a day or two and cutting out gradually doesn't seem to work either as eating a bit makes me want even more.

I'm day 4 into an attempt to quit. So far it's been fine. I've had a few moments of weakness but nothing I couldn't handle. No chocolate, sweets, cakes, biscuits,
ice cream, juice etc. good luck!

Trying to massively cut down. I do drink juice though (and alcohol!). Had two biscuits today. Generally trying to be better as I don’t think I can eat sweet treats any more without gaining weight.

I think you’re right that cold turkey is the way to go!

It gave me gut ache, so I quit September '24. Within 10 days I could walk through supermarket aisles selling cakes, biscuits, chocolate - even Haribo - and not feel a twinge.

What annoys me is the people trying to push crap on me 'just the one biscuit', 'i bought two croissants one got you one for me' etc, getting offended when I say no, feeling gluttonous as they've then got to eat two croissants!!

It means I f I do have a small slice of, for example, homemade Easter cake a friend has made, I don't feel guilty, or pressured, or a sugar rush - or stomach pain either, as that went. I can't eat much as I now find sweet things over-sweet.

I was a total chocolate/Haribo/biscuit bastard beforehand 😬

Hang on there, it gets easier.

I gave processed sugar up after chemo because I had a bad reaction to it. I got sores on my tongue and the roof of my mouth if I ate anything with sugar - cakes, puddings etc. Really painful & miserable.

I could eat sweet fruit like satsumas and mango though. It was just refined sugar that caused the issue. I'm ok now but I eat a lot less sugar, I can't eat much without feeling generally grotty.

Try cold turkey or cutting back gradually. See what works.

I haven't cooked with or added sugar to anything now for over 5 years. Your palate gets used to it. When I am making something that I feel needs to be sweeter than it is, I usually add powdered coconut milk, which is naturally quite sweet (I use the equivalent amount of sugar that would be used). If you are not too concerned about naturally occurring sugar, then dates are very sweet and also have health benefits. We cut out sugar because my DH was prediabetic, so I don't even use them. But if I was just wanting to cut out refined sugar, then I'd use dates or maple syrup as replacements.
