ds is 16 months old. he loves his sandpit, and was playing with his cups saying cuppatea, then next thing he is drinking the sand! He had about 1/2 a cup in his mouth! I scooped out as much as I could (not that much tbh) and he was happily crunching the rest in his mouth!
is it ok for them to eat sand? Is there anything I can do to encourage it to pass through?

No. My dcs have often done this. No cats have been wandering through the sandpit have they?

I have spoken a couple of times about dd2's penchant for sand

And the contents of her nappy after a pig-out session

Ballast, in a word

She's always fine, btw, and seems to have grown out of it now at 22m

is that a 'no, it isnt ok' or a 'no I shouldnt worry?'
def no cats, cos it has a lid that I have alwyas managed to remember to put on..

DS ate a fair bit of sand when we were in France when he was a year old -he seemed fine although the nappies had a lovely pebbledash finish to them.

Just be careful when you wipe his bottom at nappy changes though as it will be a bit abrasive on his skin
