Fluttering and pulsing feeling in one ear for days

For the last week days I've been having a fluttering, pulsing feeling in my ear! Feels like a butterfly flapping its wings 😂 it happens all day long intermittently, I thought pulsatile tittinus, but it doesn't seem to be rhythmic, in sync with heartbeat (I have the rhythmic kind sometimes laid down at night when it's quiet) the sensation is allll day long, very annoying, band actually worrying. I saw GP this afternoon, said, my ears look fine, a little red in the one where I'm getting the pulsing, but I explained I have been prodding it and rubbing. She took my BP which was normal, was a shock actually cos usually I have hughere readings. She wasn't concerned. So WHAT IS IT. Can anyone help?? Or had similar. It's driving me nuts, it's been non stop all day

Blocked eustachian tube maybe?

GentleSheep · 29/04/2026 17:07

I actually know what you mean, I have had that but only for a few moments at a time. No idea what it is, though, so that's not much help, sorry!

Would she have been able to see that? Cos she said the ear looks okay 😭

Might just be a wax blockage - doesn’t always affect your hearing. Might be worth going to get it suctioned.

No,it's the tube running at the back of your ear sort of down your neck. Mine always gets blocked after a cold ,takes ages to clear up. Steaming helps as does massage.

She's said she can't see any wax buildup

Thinking about my experiences with it, it's like a tic, where the muscle flutters. You could try taking Magnesium, that might help.

I’ve had that fluttering butterfly feeling in my ear before. I think it’s one of those two little muscles in the middle ear. They tense up when you hear a sudden loud sound to protect your inner ear. I think they can start twitching like your eye lids twitch sometimes. When it happens to me I’m usually stressed or drinking too much coffee.

Hmm I can't think of anything that's triggered it, I don't drink caffeine or anything. I woke up one morning and it was just there. I'm health anxious so this is really worrying me, even tho the Dr said she couldn't find anything major wrong.
