a colleaugue of mine had it and it can take ages to recover. Your immune system will have taken a bashing dealing with this, so I'd think about finding some supplements to boost that.

This is the second time I have recommended this number to someone today but The Meningitis Research Foundation have a very good 24-hour freephone helpline and IME, they are often far more knowledgeable than many doctors etc, who may have never dealt with this illness before.

080 8800 3344

Hope you pick up soon

well she ended up taking around 3 months off work, but she got quite depressed which excacerbated her slowness in recovery IYKWIM.

I suppose you will just have to rest as much as possible, and make sure you are eating regularly and with good nutrition. Cut down on caffeine and alcohol () as these will repress your immune system. Plenty of fruit, veg and wholefoods. And some regular excersise - I know that sounds ridiculous when you are so tired, but it will help in the long run.

I had it last year and was in hospital for 10 days. For the first 4-5 months I was exhausted. The doctors couldnt offer anything concrete I could do/ take to improve things and told me to just rest as much as possible (not easy as a sahm to a 1yo and a 2yo) I thought I would never get back to normal. However, after 6months the total exhaustion finally lifted and now I feel just normal tired!

Walking is a good idea, but dont go too far. I lost a lot of weight whilst ill and all muscle. The shortest walk wiped me out, but I did force myself to take my two out in their double pram once a day to bulid myself back up. I think just getting back out and about in the real world helped too.

Good luck with your recovery. Dont underestimate how much it will have knocked you about and please, please take up all offers of help you get. Looking back I soldiered on more than was perhaps wise

Gosh poor thing

Could you maybe have a word with some of the other girls who are helping with the hen night, explain you are just not up to it and can they step in please?

Maybe you could still manage to go, but don't feel pressured and put yourself back into illness by doing too much.

I am guessing there were strong antibiotics involved, which can really knacker your energy etc - maybe something like actimel or a probiotic might help? It could make a small difference. AB's kill all the good germs too so you will feel sluggish and awful because of that - I feel bad after a week of the normal ones!

oh Cristiana at lumbar puncture! DS is still phobic about needles 5 years later - even though I was convinced at the time he was too out of it to realise what was happening.
