Is there any medical nasty that might cause weight loss without any other obvious symptoms?

Not feeling ill at all, a bit tired but I suspect that's my age and the life I live. I've shrunk in the last 6 months or so nearly 2 dress sizes without really dieting as such and not increasing my exercise levels hugely. I was putting to down to running a lot more but I've had a couple of weeks off because of an injury and my jeans are loose again.

Whilst it's great and I don't want it to stop it does seem odd. If there was anything wrong surely I'd notice other symptoms wouldn't I?

Now that is slim googgly! If you've always been that thin it's probably jsut the way you are.

I'm fairly sure it's not thyroid. SIL suffered from that and felt really rough.

doesn't coeliac disease cause weight loss? & would tie in with you feeling better without wheat. you do have to go to the gp though .

liath · 08/07/2008 21:12

You should get tested for coeliac disease too, bowel symptoms that get dramatically better on a wheat-free diet plus weight loss & tiredness could easily be due to coeliac.

Hmmm...I must admit I did wonder about coeliac. But then thought I was being a total hypochondriac

I know it sounds ridiculous but I honestly can't find time to get to the GP until the DCs are on holiday and I'm on leave.

I had unexplained weight loss a few months back. I could stuff my face with whatever I liked as much as I wanted, trying desperately to put weight on, but each morning I would have lost a pound or 2! This got down to 7st 10 (at 5'6") and the GP couldn't find anything wrong with me. Then read something about drinking excessive amounts of coffee (more than 5 a day) causing weight loss. Cut back on the coffee and now back up to my normal weight. Still find it hard to put on weight but very easy to lose though, without even trying

So do you drinks lots of coffee or obscene amounts of tea??!! Also happens with eating way too much dark chocolate.

Yes. I do overdo the coffee a bit chel. Perhaps I should try to cut back.
