Anyone else still getting periods at this age, mine are still regular and fairly heavy, GP wants to do some tests.

I had regular periods till I was about 60, (so did my mum, in her day). I also had my last child naturally at 48.

Ok thank you did you have any checks for them or were they not problematic

I only got married at 40 and wanted children, and was very grateful to have been able to have them late. It's normal, I have read, for periods to continue for about 10 years after fertility has declined, so, after that, I was kind of expecting my periods to continue into my late 50s. Also, my mum had the same experience of periods continuing late- I think there can be a genetic element to it. I rather think it is the tail end of the normal menstrual age spectrum.

However, if, on taking your history, your doctor has found something to investigate, do of course follow your GP's advice.

Edited to add that I didn't have any investigations from my GP as my periods ended.

When you was having them were they heavy ? And did you get it investigated ?

Mine stopped when I was just short of my 57th birthday.

Yes, they were extremely heavy and over about 5 years I had various investigations which found fibroids, one of which was removed. I also did try a mirena coil for over a year in an attempt to stop or at least control them but it made things worse. A nightmare.

I then tried zoladex injections which did stop them for about 6 months but they then came back.

I was just on the point of insisting on a hysterectomy when they did actually stop and never came back.

50 here and regular as clockwork.

ProteinNotCarbs · 22/04/2026 22:24

54 later this year. Still having a period every month although my cycle has gone from 35 days to 28 days. Having some heavy bleeding with clots (sorry TMI)

OP - not to be rude but are you overweight (fat?). I ask because it seems estrogen is stored in fat cells and I was actually googling this the other day to see if my own weight problems were perhaps contributing to my monthly periods.

I was overweight yes, but in the last 6 months I’ve lost 2 stones and it has made no difference to my periods, yes my cycle has shortened too

I’m 53 and my cycle has also shortened (28 days) but still getting them regularly. I heard they don’t do much unless you have a problem with them.

I’m 55 and have had my coil removed recently. Shocked to revert back to being 13 again with a full blown period. Not sure how I feel about a few more years of this tbh. At least these days sanitary towels are free at work 😉

Same here. Have been put onto an hrt regime with continuous progesterone to try and persuade them to stop.
Bled continuously for about 4 weeks but this has stopped now and I'm feeling good on it.
