I have recently been diagnosed with mild sleep apnea and the hospital has provided me with a Cpap machine. I have had it for a couple of months but i am still having trouble getting used to it and have never worn it for more than 6 or so hours a night, I will put it on, go to sleep but wake up in the middle of the night and it'll be uncomfortable so i take it off then go back to sleep. Is this normal? Is this enough or should i be wearing ot for the whole night. I currently only have a nose mask and of my mouth opens in the noght it nakrs loud noisecabd wakes my husband. I am thinking of asking to try a full face mask at my appointment on Wednesday. Is there anyone who has tried both? How long did it take you to get used to out and do you wear it for a full nights sleep?

Oh interesting - how did you get the referral? I’m snoring and dry mouth and shocking myself awake!! So think I need a referral

DH has been using his cpap for about 8 years, but did have to do a bit of trial and error with the masks in the beginning. You absolutely should ask to try the full face mask

I have been using a cpap machine for about 5 years and never managed more than 3 hours at a time. The hospital staff advised me to try and aim for 4 hours, I take it off and sometimes get a little more sleep with no mask, other times, like tonight, that's it for the night and I may nap during the day. Tried all different masks, made no difference. But I sleep alone so not disturbing anyone.

Op - try a pillow face mask. Much more comfortable than the older type full face masks which cover your entire nose right up to the bridge.

The pillow full face mask covers your mouth and your nostrils - the resmed AirFit F30i is good and the tubing is on the top of the head so gives much freer movement when turning in bed too.

I have a muscle-wasting condition so get referred to everything by my neuromuscular consultant. Ask your gp if you are worried, I had to do a sleep study first. Then I was diagnosed at the follow up. Stopped breathing pn average 9 times per hour which is apparently mild.

This is the one I've had most success with, tubing on the top of the head. The main problem with discomfort I find is the whole harness snagging on my hair.

I wonder would a sleep cap help? It might stop the headgear snagging on your hair.

Yes I might try a sleep cap thanks. The hospital mentioned that the majority of users are overweight bald men. Which I am not.

I’ve just started on a cpap, was diagnosed with moderate SA, a couple of nights in I’m scoring 0.1 episodes an hour! I have a “nice” mask, goes over your mouth and sits just under your nose. I find it quite comfortable, I even loosened the straps last night so it wasn’t so tight to my face and the machine reported that I still had a good level of seal which I was pleased about

How long do the referrals take?
