Should I go back to the fracture clinic with ds?

For those of you that don't know he broke his arm a week and a half ago. He had an opp to manipulate it back into place.

Since then we've been for a check up and it was fine.
Then on tuesday he had a fall at school and we had go back for an x ray and it was still fine. They put a layer of (bright red) fibre glass over it for extra precaution.

But I've just had a call from school and he's fallen over AGAIN

Dh says not to take him back but I don't want his arm to have moved and for it to be healing in the wrong position.

Anyway I can't even get through to the fracture clinic. It's just ringing and ringing.

I don't think it will have moved in a fibre glass pot myself.

Mine's in a fibreglass cast too and they told me that it couldn't move inside the cast and I should let him do whatever he wanted to do so long as it wasn't a danger to anyone else!

Really Seeker?

They told me that he still shouldn't be running, going on bikes, scooters, trampolene etc

the fracture can move inside the cast. If the cast is the same one he had put on when it was manipulated, then it depends how much swelling there was at the time. If the swelling has now gone down, the cast could be slack- plenty of room for movement.

If he's not sore, chances are nothing's moved.

Have you tried ringing the plaster room via the hospital switchboard? they can usually track down a doctor if an X ray is needed.

Thanks tissy. He has had an xray since the sweeling has gone down. 2 actually! Most recent was tuesday.
I want to know if we should go again after todays fall.

Much more casual at our hospital - they said running and playing football was fine once the fibreglass cast was on (not before, with the plaster of paris one) and I only needed to bring him back if it started hurting.

princessmel · 19/06/2008 17:26
