threadworms - is a nursery allowed to say my son can't come

My son is 2 and has worms and just been treated this morning.
We kept him home today cos' he didn't sleep much last night but were planning to send him to nursery tomorrow (if he has a better nights sleep).
However when we told the nursery they say he must stay off for 48 hours.
Are they allowed do this. Of course I'll still have to pay my £50 and lose a days wages.
Obviously next time I'll keep quiet like I'm sure most parents do!

Just so long as you don't come on here complaining about your dcs catching things at nursery!

Oh, and yes, they can, so long as it's in their terms and conditions - which it probably will be.

I didn't keep quiet, and I had the opposite experience - not only were the nursery not bothered, they didnt' want to say anything. I made a (slight) fuss, and they put up a notice saying someone in the class had threadworm, that was it. I even had to ask them to supervise dd's handwashing, just in case.

It must depend on the nursery and, as seeker says, their terms and conditions.

It does take up to 48 hours for the worms to die following treatment, so if nappy changing is involved, I can see their reasoning. Though they could take hygiene measures fairly easily, in that case, I'd have thought.
