Burning sinus nightmare

Hi everyone,

For 8 days now the base of my sinuses where it connects to my throat has been burning and raw. Thick mucus etc. I haven't slept in nearly 8 days as it's unbearable at night. Also makes me feel exhausted and nauseous.

I thought it was a cold but it's not clearing and getting worse. I go on holiday next week and GP has no appointments. Went to pharmacy this morning to be given a decongestant nasal spray (nose isn't blocked), gaviscon and menthol crystals.

Does anyone have any advice? Losing my mind and will to live.

Go to the GP, you may need antibiotics. If they don't work then ask to be referred to an ENT specialist.

I had a terrible sinus infection for six months last year. I need surgery for my deviated septum as well.

I hope it gets better soon x

If you call your GP when they first open, can you not get a same-day call back? My GP works like this so maybe I’m extremely lucky: you call at 8am along with 50,000 other people, but when you get through, they take down the problem and tell you the doctor will call you by noon. The doctor does call, usually earlier than noon, and if necessary, they book you to come in that afternoon. I’m guessing this isn’t the norm, then? I did once need a doctor when my GP was closed, so I called 111 and they gave me an out of hours appointment at a local hospital. It sounds like a pretty bad sinus infection @bluebellthistle , so if your GP refuses to even triage, then you definitely need to call 111 and say you have a likely sinus infection and and need antibiotics.,

I discussed the possibility of it being an infection with the pharmacist but she said she doubted it as my temperature was ok and my throat didn't look inflamed? She was very young and had to keep consulting with another pharmacist before coming back to me.

I would just need to try the GP Monday now. How would I know if it's an infection?

Use a private online pharmacy to get some antibiotics. I did this a few times for sinus infections before I changed doctors. Best money ever spent 👍
