Are Spire hospitals unable to collaborate with each other?

I've recently had an operation at a Spire hospital that is a few hours away from me (because I have a niche issue requiring a specific surgeon).

I needed to get a simple prescription from my surgeon, but apparently because Spire prescriptions are paper based, I would either have had to travel several hours to pick it up in person, or the option I chose - I ended up asking my GP for the prescription (after explaining the situation).

I asked if it was possible for the far away Spire to contact a doctor / pharmacy at my local Spire hospital just down the road to organise the prescription. But apparently that seemed like a completely impossible task.

This is not the first time this has happened either. Before my op I was told I absolutely had to go to the far away Spire hospital for pre-op blood test. No way could it be done at my local Spire because they didn't have the special blood testing facilities.
And when I arrived for the blood test, the nurse told me I definitely could have done the blood test locally, as actually the far away Spire sent all blood off in the post to a different hospital anyway, as it had no in house testing facilities!

Are individual Spire hospitals basically completey separate and unable to work with each other? All very annoying.

I’ve no experience with prescriptions with different Spire hospitals so can’t comment on that aspect.
I had surgery at a Spire hospital which was about 10 miles from where I live. I needed a pre op scan before the surgery could be be done and this was carried out at a Spire hospital closer to my home. This was all over ten years ago so maybe things have changed ,but there certainly was collaboration between the 2 sites back then.

this I guess varies from spire to spire? As that was not the case for me, I also had a surgery 5 hours away from home at a spire, when the prescription needed changing I didn’t have to go back to the hospital, it just got sent through to my local boots to pick up.

prescriptions come from the prescribing dr/suregon.

you gp might not be able to prescribe to you depending on the medicine/indication.

I'm currently dealing with a local Spire hospital and my NHS hospital. I can say without hesitation that the NHS is better organised in every way. Obviously not as good on waiting times but the admin, communication and customer service at the Spire has been rubbish compared with NHS.
I had to have an ultrasound and a CT. I got a phone call the day after my GP did the referral, appointment the following Sunday and the results were on the NHS app two days later.
I need to see a consultant as a result and the NHS wait is 9 months so I'm using the Spire but getting information is taking days. I made an appointment and never got the promised confirmation, have emailed but no reply.

Apparently the phones for all Spire hospitals have been amalgamated into three large call centres, which all handle appointments etc. This is why things are, going downhill apparently

With anything private it's usually best to talk to the Dr's secretary, most, if not all, have an NHS and a private secretary.
