Shampoo for scalp psoriasis

Goodwitch9 · 05/04/2026 11:14

I get psoriasis on my scalp and it's quite bad at the moment. I used to buy the t/gel therapeutic shampoo which had coal tar in it, but annoyingly, Neutrogena seem to have discontinued it. What can I use instead please? Body Shop ginger shampoo isn't doing it for me at the moment!

Have you tried sea magik? Both me and my mum have had really good.results with it

SuckerForBread · 05/04/2026 11:16

Capasal shampoo works for mine when it flares. It still has coal tar in, so absolutely reeks, but it definitely does the job and the coconut oil leaves it feeling lovely.

I have used moo goo for over a decade now. If I cheat on it the itch and bad scalp comes back. Honestly it’s so worth it. Sulphate and paraben free. Daughter uses it too now.

Some Lloyds pharmacies have it in. I’ll get you a referral link too.

Long time user of Polytar, keeps my scalp in check and has the active coal tar ingredient. I fancy trying capasal though.

Waterdust · 05/04/2026 11:43

Have you tried using just baby shampoo.

Nizoral is the only thing that will get mine back under control

Put it on, leave for 10 mins - rinse. Maybe 3 times a week until cleared , not every day

YControl · 05/04/2026 17:22

Capasal is ok and available on prescription. If it's severe though, you might need a steroid treatment on top of the descaling from the coal tar. I actually find Sebco coal tar ointment more effective than shampoo (although it's a total pain to apply) and then something like betnovate lotion.

jamjar2025 · 05/04/2026 17:39

I use Nizoral, but when I have flares Sebco ointment is the only thing that helps- I've found it to be fabulously effective, but as a pp says, it's a bit of a nightmare to apply :)

Moo Goo.

Bodyshop ginger shampoo

FlexiSadie · 05/04/2026 18:00

I've never managed to get mine fully under control but it's particularly bad at the moment so I'm following with interest.

Lush Ginger.
Baby shampoo is the worst according to my hairdresser friend... it causes skin complaints.
Body Shop ginger makes my oily hair worse

FawnDrench · 05/04/2026 18:11

You can buy Moo goo from Amazon.
It’s great for reducing scalp itchiness.

Goodwitch9 · 05/04/2026 18:30

Wow, lots of ideas here to try! I think it's flared up because they are trying to reduce my asthma meds.

This is good to know! The duo set on there is cheaper than direct plus free postage.

I used to have to wash every day due to the itch. Now twice a week.

I love this stuff. Its the only range that sorts out my scalp psoriasis. The scalp mask is brilliant

I love Lush Ginger. However it doesn't help at all with my psoriasis. It's just a small patch so I use Dr Organic Tea Tree Cream which helps with any itching and also moisturises the dryness. I rub it on and then clean the excess off my hair.

Thanks everyone! I’ve just ordered some Capasal but have made a note of all your suggestions and will report back!
