get back to gp imeediately. Go see another at the practice if they don't help.

Post birth bleeding should last for around 6 weeks iirc not 5 months.

ScaryHairy · 18/06/2008 21:22

I don't think this sounds right.
If your GP does not know what's going on, you should be referred o a specialist IMO.

flossish · 18/06/2008 21:24

No not right - are you feeling ok? I mean as much as anyone can 5 months after the birth of their first? Please go back and try to see another GP.

Koji · 18/06/2008 21:29

feel ok, lots of hair loss....sore knees etc. Always tired!
But annoyed am still bleeding, had a weeks worth of ABs and still bleeding. Could the strep b cause it still?

See another GP, if that's impossible, go to your local sexual health clinic:

www.fpa.org.uk/finder/

My local one is much more help than my GP, in terms of investigating gynae problems.

lackaDAISYcal · 18/06/2008 21:34

agree this isn't right. hair loss can be a sign of anaemia, which wouldn't be surprising if you have been bleeding that long. Did your GP check your iron levels or do any bloods at all?

sounds pretty useless imo and you should definately see someone else.

Take care of yourself; you must be exhausted.

megcleary · 18/06/2008 21:35

get referred to specialist and a proper opinion

Sputnik · 18/06/2008 21:40

I was stil bleeding 3 months post-birth with my first baby. There was a little placenta left in my womb, which needed scraping out, so a had a very quick operation. Please see someone about this.

DH here - thanks for all the advice - DW is feeding DD at the moment. We will be contacting our GP in the morning to get this sorted

will you update us? Some hair loss is normal about this time BTW - but it could indeed be because you are anemic. Good luck.

belgo · 19/06/2008 07:57

Koji - you need an emergency referrel to a gyneacolgist to get this sorted out. It's not normal.

twentyoneagain · 19/06/2008 08:06

Koji - This certainly isn't normal and you should get checked. I bled continuously for three months after dd1 and gp prescribed the pill. The bleeding carried on every other week for another six months until I was prescribed another pill when everything went back to normal. Problem was obviously hormonal but I was completely drained and had other issues as a result. This was fifteen years ago and my GP then made me feel like I was a pain in the necck to him. Needless to say I changed GP!!

Koji · 19/06/2008 09:56

crikey twentyoneagain sounds terrible...will update you all as soon as i can. will perhapes try to get an emergency appoint. x

how did you get on?

Koji · 21/06/2008 13:49

Ok, this is the latest:
Got to see GP today (different one), explained situation and GP took a new swap, had a look at my cervix (nice!) and did an internal examination. Gp said it all seems ok, things in the right places etc. Have been booked in for blood tests, thyroids and anemia i think, with a follow up appoint. to see same GP after results in. Fingers crossed it all turns out ok and at best i get my curly hair back .

Hi Koji - glad you are getting this problem checked out, and hopefully you'll have some answers pretty soon. I can remember not knowing how to get through the day I was so tired.

How much hair loss have you had? Both anaemia and thyroid problems can cause this, and also some hair loss is normal after giving birth - due to hormones settling down again.

Wishing you well.

lackaDAISYcal · 21/06/2008 14:25

glad you are getting somewhere koji and I hope you get a reson for it/some relief from it soon

Take care xx

Koji · 21/06/2008 14:44

Not had too much hair loss i guess, but it seems huge as i had very thin hair already. There are areas at the back that a looking decidedly worrying. However i used to have really curly hair that made it appear thicker than it was, and now the curl has almost drop out altogether. Most distressing.

Koji

Same thing happened to me after a c-section. Continued discharge for 5 months, though I didn't get anaemic. Nice. GP referred me to the gynae who decided after scans etc that it was hormonal and would eventually sort. Which it did. It's a right pain though isn't it, so I'm v. sympathetic.

twentyoneagain · 21/06/2008 15:58

Koji - If it's of any help to you, I suffered some hair loss problems a few years ago and I found a really good product for covering and making the hair appear much thicker. It was only a short term measure and my hair has been back to normal for a long time now.

Let me know if you want details, it certainly gave me more confidence, I know how distressing it can be.

Koji · 22/06/2008 15:33

Twentyoneagain - thank you for all the advice etc...might take you up on the hair stuff thingy but will wait and see what the result are first. Just relieved i am not the only one who has these problems. Kinda confrims it in my mind that things will soon settle.
