Spiralling…muscle spasms and tingling

Hi all,

I’m after a little reassurance if possible as I’m currently sitting here completely spiralling and convinced I’ve potentially got something serious wrong with me.

On Friday I noticed a twitch in the muscle between my thumb and index finger, I didn’t think too much of it but since then I have also developed constant muscle twitching in my right leg and occasionally in my left leg too but also a weird tingling feeling in my right leg.
I can’t sleep as it is disturbing me so much and because I feel so anxious about it.
i do suffer from health anxiety so obviously my mind is racing.

Could be low B12/folate/vitamin D/magnesium and/or thyroid issues. All really easily treatable so try not to panic, although I do understand. I was pretty much convinced I had MS at one point-I had all the symptoms- and the dr had marked my blood tests result as ‘normal’ as they were bang on the lowest normal range, one point down would have been abnormal. However, the lab had written ‘treat if symptomatic’ which I was. Very! The reference ranges for B12 in the U.K. are shockingly low and normal isn’t the same as optimal. Symptoms disappeared with a loading dose of hydroxocobalamin. At a different time I had terrible muscle spasms that made me jump and twitch in my sleep. DH was so worried, but that turned out to be low Vitamin D.

Can you do online consultations at your surgery? I’d list symptoms and request a blood test, they should be happy for you to have these to rule out underlying causes, then they can either treat or, if all bloods are normal, they can see what other investigations are needed.

I get muscle twitching when parts of my body are overworked but once I notice one twitch I end up with them all over the place - anxiety is a huge cause of fasciculations. I was convinced I had MND but I don’t. They come and go now. Taking regular magnesium has helped 🙂

Another B12 twitcher here. I was having horrific myoclonic jerks at night... every 30 seconds or so, and was so sleep deprived! And muscle twitches during the day. Saw a neurologist, nerve conductions were ok but my B12 was very low.
Took a few months on B12 and the jerks and twitches are minimal now.

Oh yes, b12 here too. Wasn’t showing as “deficient” but also wasn’t even half way through the range and it kept dropping when I don’t take it. I got it up with sublinguals from this time last year till the autumn and now just take a normal b complex. I’ve just realised I don’t have the internal twitching and buzzing now. Seem to need to take some folate too (which is in the b complex)

(Gp had tested regularly due to other symptoms. I’d decided to up it myself a few years ago. Stopped and after a few years a lot of the symptoms came back they don’t class it as deficient but I seem better with it being higher.)

I’d ask for check up and blood tests to rule things out. You may be within range but if things are in the lower range it doesn’t hurt to take some vitamins to see if it helps.

The issue with b12 is it can be quite hard to get it up with what’s in most complexes. I took a cytoplan b12 sublingual
