Dermatology advice: prescribed treatment but leaflet says not in this case

Help! WWYD?

Had a dermatology consult today for scaley / scar tissue / old not healing thing on my lower lip.

She said no biopsy (yet) but prescribed a topical treatment to kill off any pre-cancerous cells.

I've just looked up the manufacturer's info about said drug (Klisyri tirbanibulin) which specifically says to not use on the lip or skin surrounding the lip.

She did tell me I would likely find it hard to tolerate.

Do it anyway? Am quite nervous as the skin is delicate and thin (and right by my mouth ...)

Drs weigh up risk V benefits for lots of things they prescribe. They are experienced in prescribing these items and, if they feel the outcomes would be advantageous, they often prescribe things that state they are not for certain use. The manufacturers won’t want to be sued if you swallowed it and became ill, or burnt half your lip off!

Having used a similar cream (Efudex), I can confirm it will burn like hell, and be eye wateringly sore, but it will be very effective!

@YouDriveMeCrazyButICanDoThatMyself have only just seen your reply so apologies for taking a few days to say THANK YOU SO MUCH. For the record, and in case anyone else searches this I did go for it, and have done 3 out of 5 of the treatments and so far it's been OK a tiny bit swollen and a tiny bit itchy but nothing like as bad as the consultant led me to believe it would be. I am thanking my lucky stars -- she was giving me scenarios of how to manage it if I couldn't tolerate the next dose etc etc (so scared me) and then when I read the thing about not using it on the lip I freaked out a bit. Thank you for the support!
