Gallbladder pain four days after removal, is this normal?

Hi all has anyone continued to get the same gallbladder pain after they've had it removed?

Had mine out 4 days ago and been recovering at home since, no drama just sore from the stitches (keyhole)

Tonight I've had exactly the same pain and symptoms as if I still have a gallbladder and stones. Worried they've left some stones in there. I've had the same pain and taken codiene buscopan and paracetamol and had a hot water bottle on the area which isn't settling it. Been sick loads as well.

Got the surgeons number - should I call him to let him know or is it normal to have the same pain after surgery?

Thank you

Call the hospital asap

Not normal. They should have x-rayed you during surgery to check that they had removed any stones stuck in your bile duct.

Thank you I'm not sure whether they did, surgeon came to see me after to say all went as planned but not sure if I was scanned to check. I'd have thought so but never know. Thanks x

Update, called the surgeon, he asked me to go and see him to look at bloods and turned out I had a bad bout of pancreatitis. Spent 3 nights in hospital on a drip and home now feeling lots better but not 100%. Worried it will happen again so going to be super careful with my diet/fat intake

It’s possible to feel some pain after surgery, but if it’s the same as before and you're feeling unwell, it's best to call your surgeon. It's always better to be safe and get it checked out.

No that is not standard- in fact never done . Gallstones are mostly not radio opaque.

Most people who have stones in the ducts have them removed during ERCP with sphincterotomy before the surgery , very occasionally it is done at the time
of surgery .

Where there is no suspicion of stones in the ducts ( no history of jaundice or pancreatitis and normal liver function test bloods , the gallbladder is removed without duct imaging.

However stones can occasionally fall into the ducts and in this case OP you should definitely contact your surgeon as there are a number of explanations for the pain.

I hope you are beginning to feel better now, did they do an ultrasound to check that all stones have now gone.

Sorry should have read the whole thread. Did they do an MRCP ? This will tell you if there is still trouble brewing that could cause future episodes
