Bleeding Piles - years

I've been suffering from henerroids for about 5 years. About four years ago they started to bleed after about 40 percent of going for a number two. This was often for two weeks straight then a short gap then they would start up again. Enough blood was often in the loo to turn the water red. No pain or itching. Just external grapes

Due to this I went to see a DR and was referred to the hospital and they recommended a hemeroideectomy. They are to far gone for other options.

The wait for the hospital was 12 months and then it was another 8 months waiting for the op. In that time the bleeding has massively improved overall about 10 percent of number two. Even two month without bleeding. Then maybe two weeks every time I had a poo. But only light spotting in the loo.

Due to this and the fact I am now have care responsibility for my aging father and I have no one to look after me. I called the op off. Now I'm im thinking I have made a huge mistake. They have started to bleed more regularly after a good year. But much better than when I originally went to the doctor.

I'm now worried they are going to get worse as I age I'm in my 40s. But a hemeroideectomy is a major thing and I would be on my own.

I'm kinda hoping that in a few years there may be an advance which means a hemeroideectomy is not needed. I can live with the grapes not the bleeding.

I guess after that ramble I'm just looking for advice on what to do.

I have been told I would need to go back through my gp if I wanted to do it

I have recently been diagnosed with hemorrhoids (I am 50), but am just treating them with movicol sachets and cream. On average, I have had bleeding once a week. Sorry I can't advise about the surgery, but I too would want to avoid it in your shoes. Has everything else already been tried and failed?

I've been told a hemeroidectomy is the only option. Due to the external skin tag (grapes) dragging everything down.

It's a nasty op and is it a sledge hammer to resolve the issue .

I had not thought about stool softener. Are they safe to take every day for ever?

My mum jas taken movicol for years, alongside a good diet and prune juice. She also uses anusol suppositories and they helped more than the cream
Never straining is also important.
Regular exercise, and self administered abdominal massage is also good. Acupuncture can really help with constipation too.

A good friend had this surgery last year and she is so much happier for it.

She did have to sit on a doughnut cushion for a few weeks afterwards and buy a bidet hose type gadget as part of advised after care but otherwise recovery was straightforward and she was back to her full (and very physically demanding) normal life within a couple of weeks.

My DH has suffered w bad haemorrhoids (ion and off) for 30 years!! A couple of years ago he was pretty much constantly bleeding - GP wasn’t interested so as we have private insurance he saw a specialist who did something (wasn’t an op as it was done in his office), it didn’t really help so in the end he went to A&E who were really good & somehow it was sorted. They also referred for colonoscopy.
The advice was to keep to a diet/lifestyle which encouraged soft stools, no straining, use wipes, not bog roll. He had been fine since as far as I know. They prescribed laxatives but he didn’t take many.

Thanks I might try movicol. I've been worried about products like that over the long term but will think again

Guys, thank u, it's reassuring to know bleeding like that is not a death sentence - I nearly fainted when it first happened.

Thank u for mentioning Anusol @OnceUponATimed I will try that. No idea what triggered mine, could be age and walking as that's when it first happened.

@Nothernsoulfood try low doses, we have been doing half a sachet per day for our disabled adult son - as well as upping liquids and not overdoing dairy - eg porridge made with water, prunes, stewed fruit, soft raisins etc then stirred in some yoghurt.

good call on the half sachet, I might try that.
