Anyone have any experience pls?

Tests undergone?

Significant symptoms and how long they went on for?

Treatment and risks?

Scared to ask about outcome.

Size of it?
Have seen it successfully repaired many times

Mt friends’s DH has one. He’s being monitored. It’s relatively small and hasn’t increased in size. He’s scanned annually.

Itsabitofaworry · 30/03/2026 01:06

Ok, thanks both.

Sounds reassuring from you.

I have textbook symptoms and have since 2024. All documented.

Seeing GP this week.

Glad the people in your life are being monitored effectively.

My DH has one, which is being repaired this week. It was discovered accidently when he had a scan for something else. Diagnosed via MRI.

I'm confused when you say you have symptoms. As far as I know, you don't have any symptoms until they dissect, which is a life threatening emergency.

Musicaltheatremum · 30/03/2026 13:32

Over 65s are screened for them and depending on size they are monitored or operated on.
My husband had his scan just after he had turned 65 and his aorta was normal.
He does have slightly narrowed arteries in his heart and is on statins for those. No symptoms and it was discovered through the Scot heart2 trial that was running in Scotland.
They don't normally give many symptoms though until they burst or disect

Have you had a scan? I was scanned last year (family history), ultrasound scan at the GP surgery. I'm not sure what symptoms you're referring to. My understanding was that there aren't any symptoms till you're really in trouble.

SerpentQueen · 30/03/2026 14:13

Over 65 men are screened, women are not routinely

Thanks, yes, it's men not women who are routinely screened. I omitted this in my post.

My blood pressure is sky high. I’m in Stage 2 Hypertension.

I looked back at my medical records and have seen my abdomen pain is reported as colic for the last two years, as well as lower back ache.

I have video footage of my tummy pulsating. Sent of all if this to a friend who is a nurse who told me to contact the GP as a matter of urgency.

I initially was taking my blood pressure because of some meds I was taking and needed monitoring, which has led to this possible diagnosis, not yet confirmed.
Was wondering what the next steps would be. All of the info given has been super - thankyou.

I have different arterial aneurysms, one of which dissected. Subsequent CT, PET and MRI scans. Monitored yearly for any change. Caused by a v rare autoimmune disease absolutely no symptoms until the dissection.

Interesting! I have many autoimmune conditions. The knock-on effect of them is debilitating at times.
Glad you are being looked after x

My father in law had one, life threatening,he was operated on and recovered well.

SausageOfAmbiguity · 30/03/2026 14:35

I don't know anything about your other symptoms and whether they are linked to AAA, but the pulsating abdomen can be innocuous. I have this when lying down, and it's just very visible because I haven't got much body fat.
However, definitely the right call getting it checked out! It's not worth the risk. Hope it turns out to be okay for you.
