Sore eyelids help?

NotSureFeelingLost · 28/03/2026 21:41

My eyelids have become sore with flaky skin, they’ve been like this for probably 5-6 weeks now. What soothing thing can I put on to help?

It could be blepharitis or dermatitis, but you probably need to get a GP appointment. If they’re dry and sore I’d suggest applying a warm damp flannel (if it’s blepharitis this will help relieve it) and pat dry, don’t rub. You could try a thin coating of Vaseline to help the dryness. Hope it’s better soon.

Also don’t wear eye makeup. It could be an allergic reaction to makeup or cleanser possibly.

ShrubRose · 28/03/2026 21:46

What kind of facial soap and shampoo do you use?

Thanks, is that something a pharmacists could help with?

I haven’t worn make up since I noticed it, because I thought it probably wasn’t smart! I do wear glasses, and sometimes contacts (although again I haven’t since I’ve had this issue).

I use a face wash from Liz Earle and colour wow shampoo. But I don’t use it on my eyelids.

Yes I would think they would be able to suggest what it looks like and recommend off the shelf treatment, or tell you if you need to see the GP.

You’re not using a new glasses cleaning wipe or anything like that are you?

justasking111 · 28/03/2026 21:52

Try some antihistamines

No I usually use the hem of my shirt 🤣🤣🤣 that’s a joke. No I can’t think of anything that I have changed in that regard.

Boots sell a special eyelid cleansing foam, marketed as for blepharitis.

Nickynackynoooo · 28/03/2026 21:54

Highly recommend hydrosil eye gel from the skin shop. It's the only thing I've ever tried that's worked. It's been the best discovery!

NailsForChristmas · 28/03/2026 21:56

I've had it since I got pregnant. I'm 2.5 years PP and it still hasn't gone away.
May try that hydrosol gel mentioned about, thank you.

Same!
it is possible that you are transferring something from your hands to your face and your eyelids are reacting to it. That could be your cleanser or shampoo as PP said.
it might be worth switching to a hypoallergenic one for now. When you wear your lenses is it worse? Might be worth sticking with glasses for now until you can see pharmacist, optician or GP.
Hooefully they’ll be able to advise what it is and get it cleared up quickly.

NotAWurstToIt · 28/03/2026 22:00

Sorry, just seen you don’t wear your lenses right now!

I would have a look at this for skin cleansing.

I mentioned shampoo because it rinses down during a shower. Baby shampoo would be best if you have sensitive eyelid skin.

Agree with PP about warm compress. And good idea to check with pharmacist.

mine are the same, keeps going dry and flaking and so sore

Sore eyelids help?
NotAWurstToIt · 28/03/2026 22:17

That does look a bit like blepharitis - definitely try the warm compress

Mufflette · 28/03/2026 22:20

Do think about anything at all you've changed from what you usually use, I have contact dermatitis which sounds very similar and eventually found out it's from a chemical in nail polish and affected my eyelids from rubbing my eyes, I spent years avoiding eye makeup assuming it was that! So it may not be something obvious. I'd also say go to your GP, again if it is allergic dermatitis starting the conversation may eventually mean you can be tested to find out what you react to.

OH that's bad. DH had both cataracts done last year. He now suffers with dry eyes. Saw the GP who has prescribed something which keeps it at bay.

Central heating I'm sure doesn't help. I'm opening windows every morning now for a change of air even if it's Baltic because otherwise the dogs and cat aggravate my allergies and I cough.

I've also become sensitive to some products that I've used for years. Bloody hormones.

AlwaysNuance · 28/03/2026 22:23

I got this from Nuxe facial oil. My sister's swear by it but it gave me eczema type stuff on my eyes. I never actually used it on my eyes btw.

This looks like mine when my orbital (eye) eczema flares. I tried everything over the counter then a variety of creams from my GP, tacrolimus ointment (prescription only) is the only thing we’ve found that works.

Have you always had orbital eczema, this appeared a few weeks ago, never had it before?

millit · 29/03/2026 02:46

I get this but only on my left eye. I’ve been having a flare recently and weirdly, 3 other people I know have the same at the moment and all on the left side only!
