Dizzy and nausea - vertigo?

Chocolateteabag · 27/03/2026 10:39

I woke up this morning feeling dizzy like my eyes were moving round in my head. Managed to get up and make a cup of tea, Sat in bed for a bit and thought it was easing so I went and had a shower. But then I think I’ve passed out on the floor afterwards. DH helped me back into bed and is now Sorting the kids.
If I lie still, I Feel tired, but if I move at all, I feel nauseous. What on earth is this?

Hi OP, I had a similar episode last year. It’s a very weird sensation. Have a look at BPPV and see if this sounds like what you have.

If it sounds about right, there’s a thing called the Epley Manoeuvre you can do yourself to reposition the crystals in your ear. (Best to have someone with you when you do it as it makes the vertigo intense for a few minutes.) I did it and within a few hours my vertigo was gone. Obviously this isn’t medical advice - just a similar experience. Hope it helps.

Thank you for replying
DH managed to find some anti-sickness tablets so waiting for them to kick in
It’s very annoying as I had so much planned for today before the kids break up!

Labyrinthitis.?
I get it quite often, usually starts with a very slight sore throat or earache.
GP prescribed Procloperazine which helps immensely. I can usually function if I take the tablets every 4 hours or so, otherwise it just floors me.

Chocolateteabag · 27/03/2026 11:36

I don’t have any earache or a cold but that could be it

Procloperazine is what I’ve taken (prescribed last time I had a dizzy spell a few years ago) - have managed to now sit half propped up in bed. Feeing washed out and like I need to move veeerrry slowly or it will come back.

Have googled the Eply manoeuvre - not sure I want to try it and get the nausea back though. Plus not sure which “side” I’m dizzy from

Sounds like vertigo, it could be labyrinthitis. I didn't have any ear ache but couldn't stand up.

I have since I have had vertigo on and off and the eply manoeuvre helps lots. I do it on both sides with a break in the middle

IsadoraBathrobe · 27/03/2026 11:54

Hopefully the medication will help and you’re back on your feet soon, OP.

As in had to lie on the floor and everything went very weird for a while before I came back round - I’ve had it before when I’ve had food poisoning and vomited. So yes probably low bp due to nausea

I hope you feel recovered by now.
It's a horrible, scary feeling. I have had 4 episodes in as many years. They usually last around three hours and I vomit repeatedly, they come on with no warning, so it's worrying.

I hope you get to the bottom of yours, so far, even though seeing several Dr's and an ENT specialist, I haven't found any answers.

I felt dizzy and nauseous yesterday. Was alright sitting still focusing on the newspaper, but as soon as I looked away the room was spinning. Also felt dizzy with my eyes closed. I also felt cold, though my husband said he thought I was running a bit of a temperature. Went for a lie down and fell asleep, woke up as right as ninepence except for a bit sneezy. I’ve never, ever felt like that before, and don’t want to again thanks, and I’m wondering what the heck it was.

Chocolateteabag · 27/03/2026 19:14

By 12 felt ok enough to get up and dressed and managed a slice of toast. Then went for a walk as the sun had come out. Several cups of Bovril and an easy afternoon catching up on all the random repair jobs on clothes and I feel a lot better.

Will see about a GP appt next week as I’d like to at least get another prescription of Procloperazine if/when I get another attack
(and probably better than relying on Dr Chat Chippy Tea and MN 🤷‍♀️😬)

thank you to everyone who replied - sounds like it’s quite common - horrid while it’s happening to you but ultimately not that serious and it will pass after a while
