In hospital with severe digestive symptoms, could this be gastroparesis?

Currently in hospital with horrendous digestive symptoms that have been going on for a year but are getting progressively worse.

My symptoms are chest pain, bloating, burping and nausea 24/7. I’ve been feeling full after eating very little for months but currently cannot tolerate any solid food at all. Consequently, I’ve lost over 3 stones and my weight continues to plummet. I feel incredibly ill and scared of what is actually happening to me.

One of the doctors here mentioned gastroparesis as a possibility, but more tests are needed. Can anyone with gastroparesis tell me if my symptoms sound like it? Grateful for any info. Thank you.

Hi. I have crohns and have regular gastric emptying scans because numerous surgeries can affect and imply gastroparesis, also some of the drugs I am on. Your symptoms could indicate it but I can think of a few other things it could indicate as well. Do you have a history of diabetes, surgery, gastro issues?

I’m not diabetic and I’ve not had surgery. I was diagnosed with gastritis and oesophagitis a year ago, but the gastroscopy I had on Friday was clear for both conditions. Interestingly, my son has duodenal Crohn’s, but I’m 64, so unlikely to be that. I’ve had a CT scan too and it was clear.

Remember though that Crohn’s is relatively hard to diagnose (it has to be flared and have many indications) it took me years! In the end I went for a suspected appendectomy and had a bowel resection. Lovely surgeon said ‘ we always assumed you were too fat to have crohns’ (lovely) have gone on to have numerous surgeries. Although it’s not hereditary it does run in families.

I would assume if they have suggested it they will do a motility study/ gastric emptying?
