Does this sound like a neurological issue?

Hi all.

I do suffer with anxiety, but like to think I have got better in the last couple of years.

However, some things have been happening over the period of a few months and I am now starting to get a little concerned it could be something serious.

So let's start by unintentional weight loss, I lost 1.5 stone after my second really quickly despite eating well and not breast feeding. I had so many bloods done but nothing came back so they kind of just forgot about me. The only thing that was low was my serum ferritin of 12.

Over the last 4 months, these things have started, not all at the same time or constant, just the odd occasion.

  • Going extremely numb down below during intercourse where I lose all feeling, never happened before until 2 months ago and it's happened 3 times now. It's like I can't feel a thing at all.
  • Being very clumsy, dropping things more, like things just fall out of my hand.
  • Slight pins and needles randomly in the palms of my hand when at work. (desk job)
  • Sometimes when eating or drinking some food or liquid goes to the back of my nose and feels awful.
  • I've noticed on some pictures my smile is slightly crooked now.. never been an issue before but looking back on pics it's been like that for around 6-7 months.

I have no idea if I should be overly concerned or not? I haven't spoken to my GP yet (other than the weight loss). Reason being is because I'm awaiting an internal scan because my periods are so heavy so I was waiting for this to come and go then if I am still feeling the way I am then book in to discuss the above.

Please someone take my out of my spiral, I have googled and the worst is coming up, such as MND, MS, Parkinson's, tumors. I don't want to sound insensitive if someone reads this and is going through one of these conditions personally.

Thank you all, I knowIm not looking for a diagnosis at all, just seeing if anyone has experience with any of my symptoms or have any neurological conditions that could help.

Thank you though to you all for not being judgy, Yes I do suffer from anxiety. I have done since I was a little girl but I honestly thought I was better the last few months. I am just worried something will happen to me and I will leave my babies behind. But I do suffer from the above and I know some aren't normal, such as the losing feeling down below.

Hound your GP to send you for an iron infusion. Then reassess how you're feeling after that. Low ferritin can give you all kind of weird and dreadful symptoms.

She doesn't need an iron infusion she needs iron tablets which you can buy in most shops

In other countries (Australia for eg) you would go straight for an infusion... the UK doesn't make this a priority so women have to make do with tablets which often doesn't address the issue. All down to cost.

I would address the iron deficiency first and see if that resolves other symptoms. Heavy periods may well cause it. Vit D is not that low although most people in UK are lacking during the winter.

I've been taking iron tablets for 2 years but only just started tranexamic acid to control my period bleeding so will see if my iron levels slowly creep up now I'm not losing so much

Agree. Might be nothing but best to run it by GP.

Thirding.

I would rather you be safe than sorry.

Mulledjuice · 24/03/2026 13:51

Are you supplementing vit D and/or getting time outside every day?

splendidpickle · 24/03/2026 23:08

A ferritin level of 12 could easily be causing most of this. At the very least your gp should be retesting that.
I would ask your gp for some further blood tests, they are often terrible about women’s ferritin, but the new guidelines say anything below 30 should be treated.
