Threadworms! Do people regularly deworm children for threadworms or only treat outbreaks?

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone regularly deworms their children for threadworms?
Going through a second bout of them after 2 years but it massively triggers me as have OCD. Hubby & daughter not following all the hygiene rules plus have two cats roaming about the house on beds etc. I feel like I’m fighting a losing battle & not cleaning logically anyway.
Would like to know if people just take the Ovex & don’t get them back straight away or regularly just take the medication to help prevent this when it’s rife in schools etc.

I’ve only ever treated outbreaks.

Have you had many outbreaks & did you wash bedding daily for 2 weeks etc?

Treat outbreaks. Change bedding and pyjamas when outbreak is noticed, but not every day. Wash as normal (wash hands after putting bedding or underwear in machine).

Wash hands after using toilet, and before eating (ideally always, not just when there is an outbreak but I am probably more hot on it when worms are around). I actively tell DC that washing their hands is the way to avoid catching worms. I also get them to wash hands on waking and if I see them scratching, if we know they have worms. Keep nails short enough that dirt does not build up under them. Avoid sharing food, especially with DC who always have dirty fingernails (though I would not voice this to DC, as unkind to judge in this way). If out of nappies at night, I would put pants on them to help avoid nocturnal scratching, and change them in the morning.

You don't have to do anything more - cats can't spread them, and the eggs are extremely unlikely to spread from any method other than hand to hand or hand to mouth contact. They are an irritating PITA but they are quickly banished and only come back through contact with an infected person.

I tend to re-treat sooner than 2 weeks if anyone has symptoms, with a final dose 2 weeks after the last as long as the 2 weeks have been symptom-free. I find the medicine usually stops symptoms within about 12 hours.

BertieBotts thank you for your reply. Have you had them many times? Do they come back quickly? Petrified I have done it all wrong & reinfected us all by spreading eggs everywhere.
