"Talc" for your nether regions

Ok so I know talc is bad. It's made me a bit reluctant to use any sort of powder there tbh.

The problem is I get really sweaty there. I keep everything trimmed (I only shave if I'm going swimming) and wash with water and a clean flannel at least once a day. No soap because that irritates the area but I am clean. But every few months I get what I assume is jock itch. I use athletes foot cream and it goes away but obviously I'd like to not get it in the first place.

I would use a talc like product to keep the area dry but as I say I'm reluctant to use a powder. So any suggestions?

I use my underarm anti-perspirant “down there”

TofuGoblin · 22/03/2026 11:10

OK, define "down there" precisely, because that will vary recommendations!

I am in menopause and used medicated talc free powder in the area before, mostly in leg crease/bikini line, but it dried the delicate vulva skin and made matters worse.

What I eventually discovered was it wasn’t actually sweat, but thin watery discharge due to vaginal atrophy. HRT and estrogen cream from gp sorted it out.

Don’t know what age you are but could you be similar or are you sure it is sweat?

I should have added that I wear cotton knickers and boil wash them.

I couldn't think of a way of describing it but as @Blanketpolicy says, it's the crease area. I also get really itchy on the inside on the inside of my thighs.

It's sweat. My knickers get wet on the edges. 😳 TMI.

I like boots baby powder. Never caused me any issues. Baby powder doesn’t use talc

hahahaaa · 22/03/2026 11:16

It’s maize starch

ChangeAgainAgainAgain · 22/03/2026 11:18

Most 'talc' isn't talc. It's cornstarch.

Use a hairdryer, obviously not on a very hot setting! Moisturise your inner thighs, it's possibly just dry skin there.

Corn silk talc is nice or even slightly medicated stuff like Caldescene would be suitable.
