chicken pox in 7 week old?

Hi, any advice on this much appreciated.

ds1 (3.9) had cp a couple of weeks ago.

ds2 (2) has quite a few spots, is still in the contagious stage.

dd3 (7 weeks) I thought would have my immunity, plus she is fully breast-fed.
I noticed one spot on her chest yesterday, today she has about 4-5, one on her thigh, the others on her chest. They are def not the little pimply spots that come and go in babies, the one on her leg is def a blister-type spot. I am certain it is cp, but wondered if anyone had experience of such a young baby having this?

NHS Direct have given me a few pointers to look out for, but I thought I would ask the MN voices of experience for any advice.

TIA

my 11 week old had it. He was fine, i t was very mild in him because fo the immunity still, even though i was FF him.

i just watced for temp very closely and fed him whenever he wanted, kept him in light clothes.

Very very possible.
And by the sounds of it, she does have it.

My ds was 12 weeks when he got it so a bit older than your dd.
It wasnt very pleasant for him obviously.

I just gave him alot of baths and applied calamine every so often.

My understanding is that they can get it this young but may not build up their own immunity to it. Hence could contract it again in future.

One girl in ds' class has apparently had it 3 times!

Thanks everyone.

Hope she only has it mildly like your ds, scorpio. Am getting some calamine cream rather than lotion - nhsd said it is less drying.

That's interesting desperatehousewife, I had it in the back of my mind somewhere that having it this young may not mean immunity.
3 times is a lot to put up with though!

To be on the safe side, I'd get your GP to perhaps give your baby a blood test (once he's all better) to see if he has immunity -and that could determine if he could be vacinated in the future (if you want to go down that route). My DS had chicken pox when he was only 10 days old but was exposed to it as soon as he was brought home from hosiptal. He only had it mildly (as opposed to my 3 year old and my husband!).

Good luck! At least they are all getting it at once.

Ds had it at 3mo despite being fully bf - indeed, he had spots for about 5 days before anyone diagnosed because of bf - we thought he had insect bites until they appeared where he was clothed. Quite mild - obviously uncomfortable, and he was definitely under the weaterh, but not too bad.

Chicken pox has been rife around his nursery since and he hasn't caught it, so that should have boosted his immunity a bit more!
