I have diabetes and my blood sugar is quite high so I am on medication and working on my diet so I also had my cholesterol checked and it’s 7.3 which has panicked me. I have started on Statins which I hope along with diet will bring it down.

I just can’t help feeling I am on the verge of a stroke.

Your level is only slightly high. If you are premenopausal then estrogen protects you to a certain degree and a level of 7.3 would not raise any alarms. Post menopausal then statins would be offered. The diabetes is the bigger issue particularly if it is type 2 and you are clinically obese. Statins and a concerted effort to control your glucose levels and address your weight will have a big impact on your risk of heart disease or stroke.

Mine was creeping up, as was my weight so it gave me the kick up the backside to do something about it. I’m now 2 stone lighter, controlling my carbs and 12 months of statins have lowered my risk, blood pressure and cholesterol.

Maybe request an appointment with the diabetes nurse who can help get your glucose control back on track.

My cholesterol has been high since my 30s and I'm also diabetic. I'm now in my 60s so no need to panic.
I think the key here is cholesterol can raise blood pressure and that can increase risk of having a stroke. You don't say you're on blood pressure meds so I think you just need to focus on getting your cholesterol and blood sugar to healthy levels. The meds will help with that.
One thing I will say is that not all statins are the same - it took 3 tries to find the right one for me.

Exercise and eating porridge are good for lowering cholesterol.

Yeah I am seeing the diabetes nurse next week to have a chat about everything. I think I just panicked but I know I have to get it under control.
