Hayfever starting - anyone else?

blueskiesandsun · 05/03/2026 20:58

It seems like my hayfever is kicking off for the season. Eyes have started itching. Curious if anyone else has noticed symptoms already?

I’m taking a daily antihistamine year round already as I have a dust allergy too, but still noticing it, annoyingly. Must get hold of some eye drops as clearly I’m going to be needing them!

Yes, mine is, but mine is from tree pollen so always kicks off when the blossom starts appearing.

mynameiscalypso · 05/03/2026 21:02

Yes, we all started with it a couple of weeks ago. Tree pollen here too.

blueskiesandsun · 05/03/2026 21:29

It must be the trees. I got the fear when the daffs popped up but nothing happened until I saw beautiful tree blossom appear in the last few days as it’s warmed up.

Birch pollen is a big one. The catkins have been spreading their pollen for weeks already.

For effective antihistamine use, it needs to be taken preemptively and consistently and combine it with nasal spray & eye drops.

justasking111 · 05/03/2026 21:44

All year round the dogs and cat bring in pollen, leaf mould spores. I take fexofenadine, use inhalers .DH needs eye drops too. And he's never without tissues for his nose.

ProfessorRedshoeblueshoe · 05/03/2026 21:54

Yep started them this week

Alwaystired23 · 05/03/2026 22:04

Yes, I haven't been able to put my contacts in to one of my eyes all week. I've bought antihistamine tablets and eye drops this evening, and I think it is already staring to feel better. I love spring, but not the hay-fever.

HappiestSleeping · 05/03/2026 22:06

Also tree pollen.

Bluemin · 05/03/2026 22:21

Yes had it badly for a few weeks now. I take nasal spray, prescription strength fexofenadone and eye drops and am still suffering. Been so exhausted today with it.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 05/03/2026 22:24

Three people I know of are suffering at work this week. Not helped by having the gardeners sprucing up the trees and lawns.

maudelovesharold · 05/03/2026 22:25

Yes, I’ve never known my eyes to be so itchy, even when I’ve taken an anti-histamine. Started a couple of weeks back. I’ve always suspected tree pollen - it’s usually a bit later, though, when elder blossom appears.

justasking111 · 05/03/2026 22:29

Glasses used to protect DH eyes then he had lenses put in his eyes. Now he really suffers. So glasses do help

Kdobelda · 05/03/2026 22:30

Yep, bang on cue with the nicer weather this week. I felt lousy then realised it must be hayfever starting. I've started on the fexofenadine now so am hoping that calms things down for me. Hayfever doesn't just affect my nose and throat, it affects my whole body making me feel like I've got flu and lots of body pain. But I do have problems with chronic inflammation and hayfever makes that worse.

Rhaidimiddim · 05/03/2026 22:33

Me, too. I also have year-round rhinitis and take fexofenadryl every day. But this last few days have been supplementing with Mometasone nose drops and Benadryl.

EBearhug · 05/03/2026 22:39

Yes. Picked up opticrom at the chemist this evening.

(When did we start saying pharmacy rather than chemist?)

Brinny · 05/03/2026 23:52

Sinus infections ,Dr said all due to year round hayfever. Really bad the last two weeks , prescribed nasel washout and antihystamine they are now working .

Ubugly · 06/03/2026 00:00

Yep, at least last 3 weeks, taking 180mg fexodenadine.

I want to punch anyone who starts banging on about this beautiful weather.

I have days now and then when I feel absolutely dreadful and swear I had internal bruising last year from constant sneezing.

justinhawkinsnavalfluff · 06/03/2026 00:46

Ah I thought it was just me - sticky eyes dribbly nose the works ..

Cocolapew · 06/03/2026 00:49

Started a few weeks ago, I had a hayfever injection last week and its been amazing.

blueskiesandsun · 06/03/2026 10:01

Thanks for all the comments. :)

I’m always interested in what medication works for people, I know it’s different for everyone but I’m still at the trial and error stage so interesting and useful to hear what works for others. Currently I’m taking cetirizine once a day and sodium cromoglicate (?) eye drops. Loratadine also helps me.

I don’t get on well with steroids, they make me feel stressed out and give me palpitations so I haven’t settled on a nasal spray that helps… which is very annoying indeed, because I know I’m heading for some nasty sinusitis (and then probably antibiotics) again by May, if I don’t keep on top of the nasal symptoms!

I do love seeing the sun and new growth appear in spring but it is also a very challenging time..!

How is everyone doing out there? I’ve had insanely itchy eyes over the weekend so was lucky enough to get a doctor’s appointment today and asked for prescription strength fexofenadine, a steroid nasal spray and olapatadine eye drops. Picked them up this evening- fingers crossed!!

Good luck. DH was fishing today so well away from pollen. Came home went to greenhouse and garden was coughing this evening. I reminded him to take his antihistamines and use inhaler. It's a pain.

Pumpkintopf · 07/04/2026 23:27

It is such a pain. But tonight whilst my eyes have been a bit itchy I haven’t been scrubbing at them or wanted to rip them from my head. So that’s a win!

Hi , I have never heard of injection fir hay fever , can you tell me more as mine is back to day, nose numbing pain , no taste or smell.

Cocolapew · 22/04/2026 22:39

I got it done in a nurse led aesthetic clinic, its a steroid injection. I was given a questionnaire and it was ordered from the pharmacy. I got it a few days later. Its been amazing for me.
